A few things cross my mind about this story:

1) I'm kind of surprised, given the state of law enforcement in this country, that the deputies didn't attack her and break her arm or something to get her out of the house.

2) Contract law is contract law, and it pains me to side with the banks on this one

3) But, then again, I think about the real problem which will not be discussed:

I wonder how much the dollar bought when this woman first moved into her home a half-centuryago, and if the Federal Reserve wasn't completely fucking up the dollar with inflation, might she still be able to afford her mortgage payments? The longer you live, the poorer you get, and the less your life savings will buy. The oldest people in our society are hurting because they were taught at an early age that saving your money was a wise thing to do (imagine that?).

ATLANTA —

A 103-year-old woman and her 83-year-old daughter will stay in their home after community activist alerted Channel 2 Action News of a possible eviction.

Vinia Hall, 103, was almost forced out of her home Tuesday, but sheriff's deputies and the moving company hired to clean out the home refused to move the women.

Why don't community just pay her mortgage if they care so much? It is a freak event that really best handled in the market. I can see a number of solutions that are more likely to happen then the old lady being thrown out on the street.
