The people let the government get away with it.

so if something is unconstitutional, how is it even valid? ive always wondered this? The congress can pass whatever they want. The President can sign whatever he wants. The Courts can declare whatever they want to be constitutional.

They've all taken an oath, but they all tend to hope the "other" branch will perform the checks and balances. So far, the Court has taken their oath most seriously since their not trying to win an election, but they still are haevily influenced by politics. Until Americans start appreciating the constitution, we can't expect our leaders to maintain any fidelity to it.

This Mark Kirk from Illinois, is he pro-liberty on other issues? How long has he been in the Senate?

Are you serious? Mark Kirk is in Scott Brown territory.

Yeah, all those calls, letters, faxes and emails really slowed 'em down.

I asked a question, I gave no statement. I don't know the guy, so I am asking. You did not answer the question....

Yeah, me too. Good question. If our rights are "inherent" no one can either give or take away those rights. (Unless it's by the point of a gun I assume)

The 17th Amendment says so.

Welcome to the American Police State.

Don't worry, if you're not doing anything wrong you'll be fine.

Just like TARP.

The scattered, bi-partisan support for this indicates that it's one of those votes where they all know it will pass (due to pressure from various elements of the establishment), but they need to spread the blame around.

I don't think my Senator even read mine. Maybe one of his staffers or interns read it... I just don't know. I never heard back.

I've seen a lot of that coming from commenters on various articles over this outrage.

Thus, in a country where more and more is for the state, where virtually nothing is outside the State, and where, aside from pointless complaints, nothing against the State is permitted, Americans have become ideal fascist citizens (http://blog.independent.org/2010/03/16/nothing-outside-the-state/).
