Sorry if this is redundant but there seems to be some confusion (assuming I'm not the only one who's confused).

The objectionable provisions are part of the National Defense Authorization Act, S. 1867: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?c112:21:./temp/~c112mIlKtE::

*Someone mentioned that section 1031 is missing. It is missing in the bill's original form, but if you click on "Printer Friendly" at the top of the page, it magically appears...

The White House has already threatened to veto the bill specifically citing sections 1031 - 1036: http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/omb/legislative/sap/112/saps1867s_20111117.pdf

Now, the ACLU is telling us to support the Udall Amendment: http://www.aclu.org/blog/national-security/senators-demand-military-lock-american-citizens-battlefield-they-define-being, and the link at the bottom of the page takes us here: https://secure.aclu.org/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=3865&s_subsrc=fixNDAA, stating that our Senators should oppose sections 1031 and 1032. However, this page makes no mention of the Udall Amendment and the amendment itself only seems to address section 1031: http://markudall.senate.gov/?p=press_release&id=1746.

So, what is it that we need to do?

I think we need to tell them to vote against S. 1867 altogether citing sections 1031-1036. The Udall Amendment does not seem to do enough so I dont see how we can support it.

Easiest way to call is via the Congressional switchboard: 202-224-3121. Even if you dont know the name of your Senator, they will help you.
