View Full Version : Where is Ed Meese's list of "42 terrorist attacks prevented by the PATRIOT Act"?

This was the leadoff question of the debate, yet there has been NO coverage of whether Meese was ANYWHERE near correct.

Consider:

Major Nidal Malik Hasan: succeeded in the Fort Hood terror attack
Richard Reid (aka "shoe bomber"): attack failed due to bomb malfunction - nothing about PATRIOT stopped Reid
Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab (aka "underwear bomber"): attack failed due to bomb malfunction - nothing about PATRIOT stopped Abdulmutallab
Faisal Shahzad (aka the Times Square Car Bomber): attack failed due to Shahzad's incompetence - nothing about PATRIOT stopped Shahzad

I found a list of "30 terror plots foiled" at the Heritage Foundation website, but that list laughably included Reid & Abdulmutallab, along with Khalid Sheikh Mohammed's arrest (for incidents both pre- and post-PATRIOT). The list demonstrated no direct links between the "foiling" of the plots with any specific powers that PATRIOT added.

I really wish somebody (besides us) would call this out. Judge, where art thou?
