Newt has been kicking the can down the road since the days when the debt was manageable. He should have taken a principled stand back then. Of course, he'd have to have principles first.
He voted to raise the debt ceiling four times (one (http://www.govtrack.us/congress/vote.xpd?vote=h1979-449), two (http://www.govtrack.us/congress/vote.xpd?vote=h1980-936), three (http://www.govtrack.us/congress/vote.xpd?vote=h1981-7), and four (http://www.govtrack.us/congress/vote.xpd?vote=h1984-754)) that I know of.
Did I miss any???
