It's all over. The "supercommittee"--the bipartisan group of lawmakers charged with hammering out a plan to reduce the federal deficit--has admitted defeat. With the panel's Wednesday deadline looming, Democrats and Republicans say they're just too far apart on what mix of tax hikes and spending cuts would be best.

What a collossal waste of time...reminds me of that famous quote " GOVERNMENT: If you don't like the problems we cause, wait til you see our solutions"

Even if the committee had been able to come up with a deficit reduction plan, there was no way the House and Senate were both going to go along with it. Congress claims they want to reduce the deficit but are unwilling to actually do anything about it. Then they each blame the other side. And those "automatic cuts" which are supposed to take place at the end of next year if the committee failed? They are already trying to figure out ways around that too.

A complete lack of courage on both parts. This is an election year afterall.

Did anyone really believe they were going to come up with actual cuts? Come on now.

I want to see what they come up with when they propose an actual budget for next year. Any bets spending will be higher than this year- despite cries that they need to do something about the deficits? It is the Republican's turn since they control the House which writes the spending bills. Will they actually propose this "balanced budget" thing they keep talking about? Will they actually try to reduce the deficit they say is so important? I am not optomistic. And they will put it off until at least after the election. That I am quite sure of.

Jesse Ventura has a great analogy of our system. It's just like pro wrestling, they hate each other in front of the cameras and put on a show in the ring and both sides are in it to make money.

Good. Fuck em. Not that it makes much difference. They failed, so now if Congress doesn't change it's mind we will have a paltry cut in planned increases-we're just going to go into even more debt a tad bit slower.
