It incredible! News organizations hiding news. What a business plan! It's like a restaurant that serves rotten food. They can't stay in business very long that way.

Seems like they are talking about different polls.
From first article:

GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich emerged as the favorite among party faithful, according to a straw poll at Saturday's fundraising dinner.

Gingrich bested Herman Cain, Mitt Romney and Rick Perry -- other top Republican candidates for the White House -- with 55 percent of the vote, a party official reported. About 200 votes were cast.

and from the second:

Total Votes - 630 (Republicans - 507 Independents - 123)

The first was at a Republican dinner and the second was an online poll. From the Daily Paul:
http://www.dailypaul.com/188303/results-of-nc-grassroots-republican-straw-poll

Here are the results of the NC Republican Grassroots Straw Poll, which was conducted online on Saturday. The poll was designed to give grassroots Republicans and Independents a chance to weigh in on the entire Republican Presidential candidate field. It was conceived by grassroots people in response to the NC State GOP's "official" straw poll, which was held in conjunction with a Hall of Fame Dinner, and cost$125 to participate in. Total votes, 630, of which 507 were registered Republicans, and 123 were Independents.

Paul 329 52.2%
Gingrich 139 22.1%
Cain 84 13.3%
Romney 23 3.6%
Bachmann 18 2.8%

Ohh thanks for the correction. Why would they have two different polls so close together? And why would our paper only cover the dinner party one?!!?

Straw polls don't usually mean much anyways.

Again going to the first link:

The straw poll is virtually meaningless -- an unscientific sampling of the state Republican Party -- but reflects the momentum Gingrich is carrying after Cain, the former frontrunner, continued to stumb

Straw polls don't usually mean much anyways.

Again going to the first link:

Depends on the State. In Nevada, our upcoming Straw Poll WILL determine how many State Delegates each Candidate gets. Straw Polls can make or break this election. This last chance for Freedom to endure.

I thought that Nevada used a caucus to select their delegates- and that is in February?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nevada_Republican_caucuses,_2012

Date of caucuses

The 2012 Nevada Republican caucuses were originally scheduled to begin on February 18, 2011,[2] much later than the date in 2008, which almost immediately followed the beginning of the year in January 2008.[3] On September 29, 2011, the entire schedule of caucuses and primaries was disrupted, however, when it was announced that the Republican Party of Florida had decided to move up its primary to January 31, in an attempt to bring attention to its own primary contest, and attract the presidential candidates to visit the state.[4] Because of the move, the Republican National Committee decided to strip Florida of half of its delegates.[5] Also as a result, the Nevada Republican Party, along with Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina then sought to move their caucuses back into early January.[5] All but Nevada, who agreed to follow Florida,[6] confirmed their caucus and primary dates to take place throughout January, with Nevada deciding to hold their contest on February 4, 2012

And didn't they just recently have a straw poll there?

Herman Cain wins straw poll in Nevada

By Josh Lederman - 10/21/11 04:50 PM ET

LAS VEGAS — Herman Cain placed first Friday in a straw poll of Republican activists at the Western Republican Leadership Conference.

Cain took 31 percent of the more than 550 votes cast. Mitt Romney came in second with 29 percent, while Newt Gingrich's 21 percent put him in third.

Although straw polls are of limited use in predicting who will be the eventual nominee, they can be revealing indicators of whether candidates have grassroots momentum or appeal to certain populations.
