Update! The ad ran in The Daily Iowan on Wednesday November 30th as a 4 column (7 inch) by 7 inch color display ad. Check it out here! http://issuu.com/thedailyiowan/docs/113011/7

In coordination with IDefendThePlatform, a spinoff:

We are trying to raise money to run RPF member dusman's "Oath" ad in the most circulated college paper in Iowa, The Daily Iowan.

Here is the incredibly powerful ad we are hoping to run:

...

Here is a link to the website for the daily newspaper where we will be running the ad:

Here is the email I received from The Daily Iowan advertising saleswoman:

And here is the link to Chip In to help get this ad into the hands of 19,500 students in the Iowa City area. http://twrocked.chipin.com/oath-ad-in-the-daily-iowan

We are trying to raise $500 for a 3 column by 5 inch ad. The sooner we get to $500 the sooner the ad runs. The Daily Iowan doesn't run the week of Thanksgiving so as soon as we have the money, we'll place the ad. Please contribute!

This ad feels weird since the Troop is fictional. If you fix this and find a real military supporter it would feel more genuine.

Unfortunately, that won't be possible. Military personnel cannot endorse candidates while in uniform. I know someone had mentioned that we should also get a quote from an actual soldier. However, I am a veteran, so I expressed this from my perspective, which I'm sure is shared among many others like myself, both veterans and active duty. In that regard, it's not a canned message lacking perspective, by any means.

Hey, as long as the rights have been bought for the photo, I think the picture looks good.

I get the idea of putting a veteran on there as well.

I guess professional graphic designers should look at such ads, but I think it looks too much like the military ads I see everywhere -- I'd look right over it since I'm not interested in joining the military. Maybe make the soldier less noticeable and use some color to make it "less military" ????

lol, I am a professional graphic designer. :p

I think you might be overthinking it. When you look over ads, it's not such a precise action based off of what you are describing. You may not notice what causes you to overlook the ads, but it is a 2 step process.. 1) you observe the imagery, and 2) you associate said imagery with the message being marketed. This happens almost instantaneously, however sub-consciously you are well aware of what the ad is about.

In this ad, those who are interested in the GOP race won't overlook the ad thinking it's a recruitment ad.

Just curious...why target a military ad at college students? Doesn't really seem to make much sense to me. Surely you could find a dozen issues that the average college student would relate to more than this.

I really like it. It would be nice if the quote was from a real service member who supported RP. Just a thought.

How about a real servicemember who is currently deployed to the middle east?....Not only that but one that joined after 9/11 and has spent 1 out of every 4 days of the last 10 years in combat zones. One that has a loving wife and family back home, who has already missed the birth of one child due to deployments and is about to miss another for the same reason.

Let me clear my throat.

"I support Ron Paul because he is the only candidate running who defends the U.S. Constitution, even when it is not the popular thing to do. I support Ron Paul because he supports the U.S. Constitution. I support Ron Paul because he took the same oath I've taken, and he kept it. I support Ron Paul because he see's my choice to serve as a sacrifice for the defense of my country, and not as a pawn to be used for any reason or whim he may have. I've served 10 years now and I've never actually defended my country. Ron Paul wants to let me defend OUR borders for once."

Take them out of context at your will. Just so they don't have to change the ad....

"I support the only presidential candidate who has proven his unwavering devotion to the U.S. Constitution, Dr. Ron Paul. and I'm not alone".

There....that was easy. Anything else? ;)

I can give some pictures if the creator would like. My brother is a USMC OIF veteran and a Ron Paul supporter. I could get some pictures of him at the ball in his dress blues or a posed picture (if wanted). But, I honestly would think a personal picture would have more of an influence.

But, I'm sure there would be many volunteers to do that anyway. Seems like every Marine I know supports Ron Paul.

The young voters are anti-war you say, then that is also the target audience for this ad! The ad is not to convince people to be anti-war, it is to get the anti-war people into the Paul camp. The ad shows that the soldiers are pro Paul. Wanna support the troops? Then support the candidate that the troops want! Vote for Paul.

May need to create a contact email or google voice number separate to the campaign. Some editors require that. Is there a meetup in Iowa City? Some counties are setting up google voice numbers. Just a suggestion. Great work... lets get this in other papers in Iowa.

Also, if it's not too late, this pie graph eliminates the misconception that Paul is not running in the GOP primary. The "Ron Paul is a Libertarian" meme.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? We could put all three (these 2 plus ronpaul2012.com) on it and let people choose? That might make people curious about what the difference is between them? It's a bit of a jump for people to read an ad and actually go punch in the url, but I think putting 2 or 3 options in there might raise the percentage who take the time to do it. Thoughts?
