Today was supposed to be a celebration of the end of war.

Now, I feel like it's just another day to glorify the military and promote warmongering.

What happened? Public education? Neoconservatism? I can't pinpoint when I just know that it's getting pretty disgusting. Mundanes are expected to worship the ground soldiers walk on; businesses to give away free shit. It's like the warrior caste is the new upper class.

What holiday? Everybody I know (self included) was at work. That might have something to do with it.

Memorial day was originally called Decoration day, to place flowers on the dead Union soldiers

We can't have Armistice Day because we are at perpetual war.

I think this is probably the closest to the truth.

War is Peace.

Armistice Day was the specific reference to the WWI armistice. If I remember correctly that occurred on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, or something like that (I went to a public school so bear with me).

At any rate, after VE and VJ day which signaled the end of WWII they just called it Veterans Day to include WWII and the rest is history.

My grandpop used to tell me stories about the Great War. Some of us haven't forgotten.

Are we supposed to remember the wars or the veterans? I think the focus today is on the soldiers and not the wars (for obvious nefarious reasons).

Both. 11/11 has always been about both the wars and the veterans that served in those wars. To forget the horror of the former is to do an injustice to the latter.
