View Full Version : Grassroots Project Idea: Revising Ron Paul Blimp for only FL for only January.

Since the weather here in FL is very nice during the Winter and bring lots of locals out and tourists out from other states to enjoy the beaches, parks, and entertainment events, Lets organize a Ron Paul Blimp just like we had last election to fly all of the state from the North to the South to the East to the West through the inlands and the coasts. We can save a lot of money by just having the Blimp fly for only the month of January until the January 31st the day of the FL primary.

I want to throw this idea out to this community because talk and support is brewing here in FL for a Ron Paul Blimp in January but we will need the Ron Paul grassroots supporters from all over the world help make this a reality because that is how we make such projects a great success.

I and others here in FL will continue to spread the message to others and gather organization and support. If Ron wins Iowa then a FL victory is a possibility, but regardless the amount of exposure to our locals and out of state visitors is priceless.

Please share your thoughts and ideas as we brainstorm this proposal for a Ron Paul 2012 Blimp.

For Life and Liberty.

Does the blimp address foreign policy concerns? Social security? Any other individual concerns?

It didn't help last time and it won't help this time. Fundraising, canvassing and phone banking will, even if it's the boring stuff to you. The boring stuff wins elections.

The blimp was GREAT in 2007/8 because it gave Ron Paul coverage and best of all got his name out there for the general public. Much of the battle was name recognition.

This time around his name is known. A blimp just adds to people's perception that Paul's supporters are crazy/zany, whatever. People need to understand what he is for and why. A blimp won't do that.

My 2 cents says save your money and donate it to the campaign instead. And spread the message. Talk to people(in real life). It has a bigger effect. The phone from home works well too. It helps identify supporters. And the campaign knows what to do with identified supporters. I live in Iowa and my friends and I can't count the number of times we were called and emailed about the Ames straw poll. It kept me motivated knowing that the campaign was working hard!

From what I've been reading, we can win every state if our supporters simply have better turnout than the other guys' supporters. That means our focus should be that 100% of Ron Paul supporters in each state actually go to their primary or caucus. The way we do that is phone from home and talking to people. Check this site out: http://volunteers.rp2012.org/an/dashboard - it's a social network with achievement points for hitting certain milestones associated with the campaign. Awesome idea.

I'll even provide you a practical reason.

- The Blimp cost $600,000+

- It flew in SC and it was one of our worst showings for primary votes.

- $600,000 buys a lot of high quality TV ads.

- $600,000 would be enough to send every registered republican voter in Iowa, NH, SC, and Nevada a Ron Paul brochure and For Liberty DVD.

Can we try to get Ron Paul to the million dollar goal for Veteran's day first?? We still have a long way to go.

Terrible idea in 07/08, even worse idea now. No blimp.

If your local supporters have a blimp fetish, then buy a 7'-12' advertising blimp on ebay for $200, buy the largest helium tank you can find, and fly it at local events. But there are much more effective advertising methods available. Ie: $200 will buy you a nice ad run on local tv here, with a 75k viewership. Or an ad in local papers... Or on the side of a bus... Or a bunch of signs, brochures, etc.

I'm in the tampa bay area. We are into the ron paul products brochures (have 20,000 ) and are canvassing and sign waving. We have 4 to 5 events per WEEK to get Ron's name out there. Phones, canvassing, signwaves, sign making, sign "bombing", meetings, etc.

I'd recommend holding off on the blimp until after the inauguration. It would be real cool for President Paul to have a blimp, though. :)

Probably too expensive for a state we likely cannot win.

Blimp also has limitations due to wind/weather.

Maybe some less expensive aerial shows though. :)

Unfortunately Florida is a non-starter. I have seen one sign up for Ron Paul here, and it is a 2008 yard sign. Ron will be lucky to get 2% of Florida, and with the GOP screwing Florida and stripping it of half its delegates, even trying to become a delegate is a non-starter. IMO the blimp here is a complete waste of money. Sadly, from what I have seen, this is one of the last states RP should even be concerned with.

Where have you been canvassing? By USF? There is a community that I think would be receptive near USF. Specifically, if you are able to convince one of the people there, who holds a lot of influence in the community.

We are canvassing the top 10 repub super voter districts in pinellas county right now to start. Tampa side I am trying to help grow. They are resistant to actual canvassing so far, but are going to break eventually. We are distributing the new brochures to all supervoters that we can first. door to door style and then ordering them through the mailing for others. we are fully infiltrated into the REC and have a bunch of delegates. If FL is lost, it's only because the FL ron paul supporters have given up. It takes NOTHING to talk to a neighbor. You don't need campaign money for that. We CAN win if their is a BIG BIG BIG split between the top 4 in the state. The only thing that will cause this is canvassing. We ALL have to do our part in our communities in FL. If you are in the tampa bay area and want to see how it's done, message me and we'll meet up. We seriously have 4-5+ events per WEEK in the tampa bay area.

I previously was in the Tampa area, however I am not any longer. It's just that there is this lady that I know, who talks to almost everyone and knows everyone in that community, she is also Christian. I know that if she was convinced, she would spread the word throughout the community.

While I wasn't a blimp backer last time (it did generate alot of local press coverage and it can't be censored), I gotta ask why they donate to the black hole mentality, do you work for the campaign bluesc?

FL is not a winnable place for us. Put our resources where we can win. How many calls have you made using the campaign's Phone From Home program? Are you planning to go to Iowa or NH for Christmas break?

i LOVE the Blimp but it is just not cost effective and we can make use more of our money by donating to the fundraising or investing it in other forms of advertisements.

No, you say "black hole", while a blimp and Florida are the financial black holes. When people make suggestions, I mention that people should be donating or promoting moneybombs. You push for more sign waves.

yah, my group is keeping sign waves as 1 to 4 on events with focus on calls and canvassing. The only reason we do sign waves weekly is because we hand out MASS amounts of bumper stickers with our groups links on the back to recruit new members, and then we have a meeting at whatever restaurant/coffee shop is near us to discuss current events in the area (and support, questions about canvassing, etc)
