First-ever nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System to occur on November 9 at 2:00pm EST
Will last up to three-and-a-half minutes

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) are spearheading an aggressive public education campaign reminding Americans not to panic when they lose television and radio service for a few minutes on Wednesday during a test of the Emergency Alert System.

Although the public alert mechanism is decades old and often tested and used at the local level, it has never before been tested on a nationwide scale.

This first-ever test will occur at 2:00pm EST on Wednesday, November 9 and will occur simultaneously across the U.S. and its territories, lasting up to three-and-a-half-minutes.

We've always had free cable at my house but yesterday it went out and channel 21 says we need to buy a box. Am I being too paranoid to think it has something to do with this?

Funny thing about that is this has been in place for many, many years. It was in place..... and not used on 9/11. So yes indeed, how bad would it have to be to require a national alert?

I am not concerned about this test. It is only a test.

Serious question. How is this linked to martial law? My gut kind of understands this, but I couldn't answer it if asked.

Maybe since Osama Bin Laden was so good at penetrating the worlds most guarded Super Power, he was able to intercept the EBS that day too? <Sarcasm off>

Why would they be testing the EBS unless there is something in the works? Strange timing.

There is no such thing as "free" cable.

Yeah, I think you are being a bit paranoid, though. I know a lot of people who don't have boxes.

Maybe your cable provider is putting in something like say, digital cable, that your older TV cannot display without a cable box.
