A few months back, I was watching CSPAN where a political strategist said that the candidate who gets the greatest percentage of independent votes will win. He said this is the key group to focus on which is not surprising:

An estimated 37 percent of all American voters now call themselves independents or unaffiliated voters, according to a recent study by the Pew Research Center. This is a bigger group than those who say they are Democrats (34 percent) or those who identify themselves as Republicans (28 percent). The percentage of voters who say the are independent is the largest in 70 years.

Are there voter lists of registered independent voters that we can get our hands on and focus all of our energies there?

Here's an independent activist group I found who have chapters nationwide. Wonder if we can somehow use this as a possible resource:

We need to do things like show up at malls on black friday and pass out brochures like this: http://www.ronpaulproducts.com/brochure3.html We need to go to non-Ron Paul events and pass out literature. Canvassing reaches the independents.

Absolutely.

The problem here is that the self-described Independent voter is probably getting "informed" only by network news and cable TV. In other words, they aren't even hearing about Ron Paul unless it's the occasional jibe or disparaging remark. We need to be creative.

Speaking of malls and Black Friday, didn't some folks get together back in '07 and hand out free coffee and Ron Paul materials to people standing in line in the pre-dawn hours on Black Friday? People standing in line for almost any reason are usually bored and would be good prospects. Another member here on RPF suggested passing out free Mylar "Ron Paul" balloons in malls, etc. along with campaign lit.

This is an amazing idea. We should organize something. Something big. Preferably with a lot of focus in Iowa and NH.

It can't just be random things though. We need an organized, synchronized grassroots effort.

This is kind of a funny thread title.

Independent voters are by their nature, independent. Which means they are more likely to be individually-minded. So, who do we focus on them? You can't. You need to focus on each one of them one at a time. It's all about word of mouth. Whether that's through canvassing, passing out brochures at public locations, or just talking to people you know, it's accomplishing the same goal.

We just need more of it. Talk to who you feel comfortable talking to, but talk about Ron Paul. All the time! Reach out to people you don't know. Become involved. But talk to people. I'm not sure how you can organize individuals to talk to other individuals, but this is what needs to happen.
