Authorities and doctors are warning parents who want to avoid chicken pox vaccines for their children that a new mail-order scheme to share lollipops licked by children infected with the disease as a way to create immunity in their kids is not only unsafe but illegal.

I know someone who took their kid to one. I think you are just as likely to die from small pox as the regular cold virus and having it as an infact means faster lesser scars from the rashes u get from small pox and generally more convinent.

No one would disagree that you don't have the right to infect non-consenting adults with suckers that are a biological hazard. So why is it acceptable to purposefully give kids a debilitating illness that kills ninety Americans each year?

Chicken pox can be extremely nasty. I got it at age 14 and was literally covered head to to toe and missed a month of school as a result. A nurse came by to visit and said I looked like a small pox victim. Wouldn't wish it on anyone.

It's true, that parents do try to expose their kids to chicken pox at a young age. It is easier for the child to tolerate the younger they are. They are less likely to scratch if they are babies and that means less scars. Also, when older people get the chicken pox virus it is likely to manifest itself in the form of Shingles which is very dangerous and painful. If you have had the chicken pox previously, and a good solid case of it so that the immunities are developed, then you are less likely to get Shingles.
I did not get chicken pox till I was 18, and then only had about 8. Thought they were mosquito bites at first. I wish my mom would have taken me to pox parties because I would have rather had the immunity to Shingles.

Well, people die (http://www.circumstitions.com/death.html) or get maimed (http://www.fathermag.com/health/circ/horror/horror.shtml) during circumcision every year, but it's still acceptable to most people.
