Can anyone imagine Hannity or the rest of them saying:

Paul has consistently demonstrated his ability to rally his supporters to straw polls throughout the nation. Paul took second place in the Ames Straw Poll in August, finishing just 1 percentage point behind Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann. Paul won a Values Voter Summit straw poll in October and a California Republican Party straw poll in September. On Saturday, October 22, Paul garnered 53 percent of the votes to win an Ohio GOP poll. Last weekend, Paul won an Iowa straw poll at the National Federation of Republican Assemblies in Des Moines, Iowa with 82 percent of the votes.

on Fox or their radio shows, over and over like (t)he(y) mentioned Cain's FL win..

I wouldn't drudge this. He only got 8% of the in person ballot votes.

so what? You couldn't vote in person in the city, only in the pricier suburbs. They are just being sore losers.

Was this restricted to only IL residents?

Why on earth would I unnecessarily waste money on gas and two hours out of my day at a minimum to do what I otherwise could in two minutes?

Would I have driven if it was in-person only? Absolutely. Discounting the online portion is a laughable attempt to discredit the win. Lord knows that if we lost this would be a MAJOR win.

Yes. And I doubt that you'll find any article that does not mention the in-person results separately.

Sorry, I stand corrected. I didn't know it had a resident restriction. So this is good now that I know.

bump for new story, better for drudge, although it just HAS to throw in some podunk group poll I never heard of that Cain won a month ago, which apparently had been written up by media because he isn't Ron Paul.

Paul 52%, Cain 18%, Rom 14%, who cares.

On the Yahoo page, it won't show who won unless you click on the headline. What a joke!

Yes, I voted online. Want to know why? The nearest polling place was 46.7 miles away from me, and I don't exactly live in bumho IL. So having the option to vote online was great. I never knew that it would be held against us. Pure BS if you ask me.

With that option, I wouldn't travel anywhere that it took over a gallon of gas round-trip. With travelers paying the same, this win is pure and worthy.

Not really, if you look back, I told everyone to ignore the event all together...

from this one:

The Illinois straw poll -- at 3,649 votes -- surpassed such large states as Ohio, Florida and California that held straw polls earlier this year.

"Today's straw poll was an excellent opportunity to showcase our party's strength one year out of the election," Illinois Republican Party Chairman Pat Brady said in a statement. "I am pleased with today's turnout and look forward to building on our successes from 2010."

except if anyone else had won it but Ron there would be coast to coast headlines on it for a week. Ron was rising and had risen to third before Cain won a straw poll, remember? Never mind that Ron had won California's the week before without any media fuss at all.

$5 well spent. I'm surprised only 3600 cast votes. If this was an in person only poll, I definitely would have gone out in support of Ron. Since we were assured online votes counted as much as in person vote, I opted for the online

I voted in this :) Really hurt me having to give money to Republicans though.

We have the strength to run a scorched earth Straw policy. It hurts us to put effort into them for little return other than the organisational boost, but we deny sooo much to other candidates who have no other way of giving hard evidence for viability.
