Last year, Congress passed a bill easing crack sentences. The bill had mostly Democratic support, but was backed by Republican Rep. Ron Paul, who argued on the House floor that the original laws were designed to clean up drug-wracked inner-city neighborhoods.

"It turned out that it backfired. It actually hurt minorities. It didn't help them, and here we are trying to correct this disparity," Paul said.

As a Christian, when I first heard some of Ron Paul's policies on things like drugs, I kind of shuddered.
But I liked Ron Paul SOOOO much that I wanted to give some SERIOUS thought to his policies and what they meant.
It dawned on me, that this IS how God works. He gives us our FREE WILL to make our own choices.
If we make the wrong choice, He does not come down and SMASH us, but we will have to deal with the consequences of our own actions.
Even if drugs are legal, that does not mean that people are just going to do them because they are legal.
Even if there are no FEDERAL ramifications, there will still be personal ramifications as deterrents.
I have grown to love Ron Paul's policies on pretty much everything.
There is nothing that is better than true liberty!

I don't believe it. Positive RP/republican coverage on NPR? Not possible.

But really, the government's ability to mold morality amazes me. Sure cocaine is a "drug," but how successfully has the government removed alcohol, nicotine, and caffeine from under the umbrella of "drug" in our society?
