The wave of civil unrest that has swept the globe over the past year has prompted the Department of Homeland Security to step up its monitoring of Twitter and other social networks in a bid to pre-empt any sign of social dislocation within the United States.

“Department of Homeland Security Undersecretary Caryn Wagner said the use of such technology in uprisings that started in December in Tunisia shocked some officials into attention and prompted questions of whether the U.S. needs to do a better job of monitoring domestic social networking activity,” reports the Associated Press.
Wagner announced that the federal agency would implement new guidelines that would focus on “gleaning information from sites such as Twitter and Facebook for law enforcement purposes.”

I have watched this woman in the judicial hearings related to the Fast and Furious case and other cases.
She is a case! Kind of has that disregard of her own actions that makes one skin crawl.
The same thing goes on with facebook. I quit using facebook last month when someone showed me that if I post an article that is "politically charged", when altering the url and including text related to "friend activity", my post would actually show up on Obama's page! And he was NOT my friend, nor had I liked his page!
I found it extremely creepy!!

The woman in the picture...... is Janet Napolitano. Secretary of DHS. I have watched her in judiciary hearings giving her testimony.
Did you not understand what I said about facebook?

No, I completely did not understand what you said about facebook. Random political posts end up on Obama's wall? Wouldn't that make his wall so active it's impossible to read?

No, it is related to some setting having to do with "friend user activity". I could see my own posts, the posts of all my friends on his wall..... but that is it.
It was some creepy setting implemented by facebook. I will see if I can find an article that can explain it better than I can. But, social media is NOT our friend anymore!

My wife plays Farmville. That makes her page impossible to read.
I don't use Twitter,, but this almost makes me want to make an account and post a lot of random "unrest".

Social media was never anybody's friend, except maybe the FBI. Still, I use it as a tool, because I have to, and as a public figure there is really nothing that "they" don't already know about me anyway.

You can set up a page to trigger on ANY keyword. It has NOTHING to do with OBAMA. It is not a conspiracy.

It may not be a conspiracy, but if they are watching Twitter, they are watching facebook. The fact that they are watching...... is a conspiracy.
Lets not forget about the Attack Watch website where citizens are supposed to rat each other out?

I hate Obama, and Facebook, but Tony is right. This is just a search function like most any search than can be conducted on Facebook. That link is basically "search all my friends posts for the word Obama" those stories are not hosted to his page, it's just the results of search function calculated on the fly when you click the link.

Of course they are watching. Of course it's wrong that they are watching. Doesn't make THIS anything special though.

I don't recall saying that it was "special". I said it was creepy,..... then went on to attempt to explain how the creepiness works.

The Library of Congress archives every single Tweet that is sent out.

Life's too short to live in fear of "they." I just go by the fact that every keystroke I do on the internet is recorded, and that's just the way it is.

You're letting it get to you again.
You know that they are watching, and they won't stop(even if they say they will). So if you post it, make sure you mean what you say. Since anything that you put into writing or say can be used against you, I surely hope you mean it.
Fun time is over.

Twitter (and FB) was started with seed money from the US Intelligence community. Trust me, they are already way ahead of what they are letting on.
