Steve Sebelius is funny:

There are candidates who run for office because they want to do something and there are candidates who run for office because they want to be somebody. And Texas Congressman Ron Paul is definitely in the former group.
How can you tell? An informal survey of presidential candidates merchandise, that’s how. In addition to the usual fare — hats, T-shirts, bumper stickers, rally signs, keychains, coffee mugs, etc. — Paul’s website offers “issue cards” (http://www.ronpaul2012.com/store/) on subjects ranging from Paul’s quest to end the Federal Reserve Bank system, to attain energy independence, protecting gun rights, homeschooling and health care.

Clearly, as far as Paul is concerned, his campaign is not so much a bid for office as it is an evangelism tour to convert the country to his way of thinking. And while all campaigns have issue statements on their websites, Paul’s is the only one that offers his supporters literature they can share with others in the battle for hearts and minds. Just please wait until after 10 a.m. on Saturdays to knock on the door, OK?

In fact, Paul’s online store was the most weighty of the Republican presidential candidate field reviewed for this blog. Although former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has the reputation of a Republican idea man, his online store is surprisingly limited to just the usual fare (http://www.ronpaul2012.com/store/). To be fair, Gingrich does supply a link to purchase his books or movies (http://www.gingrichproductions.com/products.html), and you can find Gingrich’s 21st century contract with America (http://www.newt.org/21st-century-contract-america) on his website, too.
