The Illinois Republican Party is conducting its first statewide online straw poll starting today.
Via the Internet, Illinois voters will have the opportunity to have their votes counted on who they prefer to be president, according to a news release from the DeKalb County Republican Central Committee.
Online voting opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 7 p.m. Nov. 5. Voting can be done by visiting http://www.illinoisstrawpoll.com/. The results from the straw poll will be announced at a special event to be held Nov. 5 at the GOP Headquarters in Chicago.
Voters who wish to participate in online voting must be Illinois residents with an Illinois ZIP code and must have a credit/debit card. A contribution of $5 to the Illinois Republican Party to help defray the cost of the straw poll will be required, according to the news release.
Contributions will also help the DeKalb County Republican Central Committee. Counties will be identified by ZIP code and will receive 50 percent of the proceeds of all votes cast within ZIP codes in DeKalb County. Those funds can be used to assist local candidates running in November 2012, according to the news release.
