I'd love to see Cain try and explain anything for more than 30 seconds.

He want no moderator? WTF? Knowing Newt and the Bamster, the debate would just become a fuckin train wreck almost immediately.

Could be a good thing but will this be covered on the boob tube? If so, Ron better get in on it.

I'm sure someone will cover it.
Sounds like fun.
I hope Paul goes for it.

“We initially wanted a forum with all of the candidates,” O’Sullivan says. “But when we heard Gingrich say he wanted a more serious debate, like the Lincoln–Douglas debates, we wanted to do that, especially since watching the recent superficial debates has been frustrating.”

Newt Gingrich will destroy Herman Cain in a Debate. This is just a big show to put the spotlight on Newt Gingrich.

Self-proclaimed conservative Newt Gingrich could be the next Republican candidate for President, but with his unconstitutional track record, will he be right for America?

Is Ron going to be in this debate because I believe he wanted something more serious? If nif not should we hit them up?

I think Ron needs a break. That's what I think right now. Let's wait for the Iowa debate (don't know if it's televised) and the CNBC debate both in early November.

Isn't all of this exaggerated for TV? Ron doesn't seem like himself.

According to the originally cited article from National Review Online, this is a debate solely on the topic of entitlements. This is one of Ron's hot buttons, and I think he needs to be there, but it doesn't mention that anyone else was even invited. An interesting way for the Tea Party to black out Ron. This would certainly solidify one of these guys -- and maybe even both for a Gingrich/Cain ticket. Sounds to me like the Texas Tea Party is trying their best to manipulate a preferred ticket. I don't like this exclusionary tactic.

It's certainly a Gingrich push tactic.Cain's polls are parabolic like Perry. It won't last.Paul got the two 5% low polls from the two top pollsters (be interesting to see how they changed their methodolgy) and they'll cut back the number of polls considered to give Gingrich a 'meteoric' shoot past Perry.Paul will get good polls too because of the plan, they won't be able to skew the data that greatly because it will become noticeable. They also manufactured the student loan nonsense but the two 5% results will keep things under control.

Wow that could be good for us, even if Ron doesn't attend. Because the longer that Cain has to speak the more and more likely he is to say something ridiculous in which in the post debate coverage he'll either A)deny saying B)claim he misunderstood the question C)claim that the "fast pace" of the campaign just caused him to misspeak or D)tell us he was joking and that we should all learn to take a joke jeez.

Ron needs to challenge Romney, that would be awesome.

He had more energy then. Less polite you might say, but not rude.

I think if Ron joins this it would have the potential to be a disaster.

I thought the existing debate rules prevented candidates from debating outside the existing forums?

Are Gingrich and Cain the only invitees? If yes then I agree this is a cheap stunt. There's really no reason to Cain to agree except that Gingrich is designed to be the new "outsider favorite" if/when Cain implodes. Why should Cain agree to debate someone as low in the polls as Gingrich when his main rival right now is Romney?

If you're a big enough candidate you can flout the rules. Imagine the outcry if CNN or Fox tried to bar Cain from the next debate because he had a debate outside the forum? At the end of the day, the customer is always right.

Cain thinks he can increase his stature by getting his message out without the distraction of the Haircut Twins. Appearing with Newt validates Cain.

Looks like this is in Houston, i.e. Ron's backyard. If Benton et al can't get Ron into this he needs to go.

Maybe an infiltration of Ron Paul supporters in the audience would be in order.

Some of the rumors suggest that Cain is only running for publicity and face time to sell a few books with no real intention of actually winning the nomination. If that is indeed the case, I can see this as a managed decline for Cain to suit his purpose and at the same time propping up the next candidate for everyone to fall in love with. How Newt is gaining traction as a conservative is beyond me, but whatevs... nothing surprises me anymore.

I feel like I'm watching Scott Pilgrim... errr Ron Paul vs the World
