He was a great man. I wish I could have known him and seen him do some good at the political level. You will be missed Ed Thompson.
OMAH—Ed Thompson, the younger brother of former Gov. Tommy Thompson, has died at his home in Tomah.
Thompson is a former Tomah mayor who most recently ran for the 31st District state Senate seat. He lost to incumbent Democrat Kathleen Vinehout in November’s election.
Thompson was in the middle of his state Senate campaign when he announced in September 2010 that he had pancreatic cancer.
Family spokesman Brian Schimming says he died about 2:30 a.m. Saturday. He was 66. His older brother and other family were with him.
Thompson ran for governor as a Libertarian in 2002, but his most recent campaign was as a Republican.
His brother, Tommy, was governor from 1987 to 2001 and served as U.S. secretary of Health and Human Services under President George W. Bush.
