lol I wonder if that will stick? Id love to have coined a phrase!

Doesn't this paper make a better case for his 999 plan? Gives it more legitimacy. Perhaps it's not a good thing to direct people to it.

A case for it with the tax rate and economy of 1996.

It's a stupid idea, this paper and having used the very guy who dreamt it up to 'score' it, doesn't improve it.

lol I know. It was as a crappy idea in 1996 as it is in 2011.

I love that "Ron Paul Supporters" has taken a life of it's own. There is no such thing as "Mitt Romney Supporters" or "Rick Perry Supporters". But there most certaintly are Ron Paul supporters, and the general definitions include passionate, intense, and obsessive to a fault. God bless Ron Paul supporters!

Ben Smith would have you think he did all the investigative work himself. Politico stinks on ice.

So did it have any "outside analysis" at all or was the only guy who was supposed to be the "outside analyst" was actually the author?

Reminds me of when Art Laffer praised the 999 Plan and it was big news.

I wonder how many people (besides us) know that Art Laffer was one of the authors of it.

To quote Herman Cain, "They think we're stupid."

LOL. Ben Smith (JournoList (http://dailycaller.com/2010/07/29/political-operatives-on-journolist-worked-to-shape-news-coverage/)) is passing off TexMac's work as his own while making a huge story about Herman Cain doing the same!

SHAMELESS!

I thought the biggest surprise of all is that the "analysis" doesn't even analyze 9-9-9. It's just some academic research paper on the benefits of a flat tax.

Here is Herman Cain's "9-9-9" Portal:
http://www.hermancain.com/999plan

Click "9-9-9 Scoring Report".

Now do: ctrl+f "9-9-9"

...

.........

.....crickets.

I mean, am I reading this wrong? Doesn't the paper say at the bottom of the introduction:

In this paper, we find the revenue neutral tax rate, assuming no
growth effects, and assuming no exemptions, deductions or credits.

And then in the accompanying tables: (from p.7, "Recap of Tax Reform Proposals")

Business Transactions Tax: 19.2%
Comprehensive Factor Income Tax: 22.5%
Comprehensive Sales Tax: 21.3%

So, basically wasn't the purpose of this paper to find the revenue neutral rates for 3 types of taxes, and none of the 3 rates that it found were 9%? BTW, a "Business Transactions Tax" sounds like a VAT and not a Corporate Income Tax. So....

(1) Is this paper even on the right topic? It appears to be discussing a VAT, not a Corporate Income Tax.
and
(2) Does this relate to 9-9-9 in any way, shape, or form? They conclude that 20+% taxes are revenue neutral, not 9% ones.

I'm just an accountant, so what would I know anyway.
