THURSDAY, OCT. 20, UPDATE: “PROBABLY WILL PASS.” A leading Nevada Republican told the Granite Status this afternoon her party will “probably” approve a move of the state's GOP presidential caucus from Jan. 14 back to Feb. 4.

“It probably will pass,” said Heidi Smith, a Republican National Committeewoman from Nevada. “I can't tell you for sure, but it probably will pass.”

She said a vote on the date change will be taken on Saturday at a Nevada Republican Central Committee meeting.

Smith said Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval's change of position on the issue today was significant.

Last week, Sandoval was firm on keeping the Nevada caucus on Jan. 14.

Today, however, he told the Las Vegas Sun he was supportive of efforts underway by the Republican National Committee and GOP officials in Nevada, New Hampshire and Iowa to resolve the issue.

Sure hope so. As far as im concerned the more time we have the better. Not to mention the college aspect.

That move would put UNLV and UN Reno back in play with the some 40K or so students between the 2 schools.

With Iowa, we have a plan A and a plan B depending on the date.

Jan 9 is the first day of classes for Iowa State. Kids who go to Iowa state will be in their dorms that day. All we need to do is pull them out of their dorms.

With a Jan 3, we have to hit Des Moines (and other cities) hard right before the caucuses.

My guess is Nevada is trying to decide how well they think Paul will do there. They probably want to mute the progress by voting after SC and FL.

BTW, Any word on if FL is losing delegates for breaking rules? they would have to be proportional distribution now too, right?

Iowa will be on January 3. The Chairman said the date is set in stone and there are no circumstances where they will consider moving that date even if NH jumps ahead of Iowa.
