Just reading through the plan - THIS doesn't go far enough.
Paul would slash funding for the remaining departments, including a 40 percent cut for the Food and Drug Administration
The FDA is a dangerous entity, owned by Big Pharma, and needs to be eliminated. The FDA is responsible for more misery and death than any other government agency.

Also, is this a true statement?
Chuck Marr, the director of federal tax policy at the Center for Budget and Policy Priorities, said a tax holiday for foreign profits, which was temporarily implemented in 2008, is “grossly unfair” because it rewards companies who locate overseas.
“It amounts to a new incentive to shift money overseas,” Marr said. “You’re basically saying to companies overseas that are special don’t have to pay taxes.”

You can't change things overnight. Constitutional incrementalism.

Ron's foot in the White House door. Bold plan not too scary for most Americans.

^^ Yup.
I thought it could go farther, and he has said many tines that he would remove many more unnecessary agencies.
I suspect he whittled it down for the announcement.
Yes, it could go a lot farther.

It can't necessarily be abolished all at once. Some of these agencies have to be phased out over several years.

As Chief Executive he will direct enforcement priorities significantly altering the FDA's current mission. And think of the tens of thousands of Executive Orders that would be rescinded by midnight. The air you breathe the day after inaguration will be much freer.

A phased approach is much easier to swallow.

It will take time for people to understand that they don't need the evil FDA. One step at a time. First we need to get Ron elected.
Even if Ron serves 2 brilliant terms, our work will still have a long way to go if you want to save this country and restore liberty. G. Edward Griffin said that even under ideal circumstances, it would take 30 years to phase out the Federal Reserve.

People are scared of Ron. they know he is right, but they are scared of what it means. Sometimes you have to let them see that it works, first.
He's trying to get something that can actually be passed, and not scare people off so it is marginalized. He has said he'd like to go further, for example he said it might be possible later to let people older than 25 opt out of social security. Obviously, that would require more cuts.

My understanding isn't that he wants to give them a holiday for all purposes, but a holiday on repatriating income they have abroad. My understanding is that we are the ONLY developed nation that puts a penalty on bringing money back. It goes out, and there is a disincentive to reinvest here.

Exactly, in fact it is an incentive to invest elsewhere. like my MS buying skype example.

Ron Paul wants to see it go much farther, as do libertarians like myself. We have to be honest with ourselves though. This plan was released as a tool to win the nomination. Something to get Tea Party conservatives fired up. Nobody sane, however, thinks this plan has any chance of passing congress, ever. What does that say about the chances of an *ideal* plan passing congress?
We will have to win our liberty back incrementally, I'm afraid, just like we lost it.

I was disappointed that DHS wasn't one of the five agencies slotted for elimination (although the ones he chose are definitely worthy as well)

I agree. Although I think if he did include DHS, then the media would have focused on it and made that the issue. Thus, 2 weeks of interviews about why he wants to shut down FEMA Homeland Security, the agency that will rescue us after disasters protect us from Terrorists.
