Love the plan... but politically I think he maybe should have avoided the Dept. of Energy... and maybe the Dept. of Education. The media, and the left will be automatically disgusted by these. Might have been better to go with a less controversial Dept. I guess he's going for the Republican nomination, so these may be winners for that (although I think you'll find most neocons love them almost as much as the left).

Still, the guarantee to balance the budget and pay off the debt SHOULD be attractive to anyone who isn't dumb. Unfortunately everyone will get caught up in the unimportant details and continue to ignore the huge problem of debt.

Though eliminating the Dept. of Education may lose some Blue Republican votes, it is a platform Reagan ran on (yet didn't follow through with). Many Republicans wish there were not a Dept. of Education, and will love this part of the plan.

If you are talking to a potential "Blue Republican" - just point out that most education funding is already within the state, and the Federal level is very unpopular, maybe even disastrous (just mention No Child Left Behind - I am yet to meet a teacher who is a fan of that.) Cutting the Dept. of Education leaves more money in the states so they can deal with education in a location-appropriate way.

Not a big fan of Ron's "excited/goofy" persona in situations such as this. The stern/serious Paul comes across with far more gravitas and is a must when putting on press conferences about the Economy (which is in CRISIS).

Not sure what to make of this production today....

Assuming this is the first of many such 'formal press events' - hopefully Ron & Co. will review the tape and work on improving the presentation.

Yeah, production on that was pretty terrible. The stagging of the girls behind him... some are needed to convey the misconception that only young men support him... but almost the entire recorded stage was women. Minor problem though compared to the rest. The quality of the stage, podium, backdrop. The audio quality. The media should have been in the front rows and miced. His mannerisms should be more muted in an event like this - better podium could help here.

Anyway, I missed the first half, I'll have to go back and watch it. Great plan for the most part... but his campaign needs to work on upscaling the production values.

I think Ron needs to say he'd seek an amendment giving the States back their right to elect the senators themselves. IMO that would solve a lot of our problems.

I don't think getting caught up in the debate over something that 95% of the public has never once thought about is the right strategy for a difficult campaign.

That's exactly what he's already done. But I think average people would be much more open to hearing that we should give the States back their representation in Congress than they typically are to hearing we should get rid of the Dept of Health or the TSA.

On the contrary. Every single media outlet would say that RP wants to take your right to vote away. Hell, NC State Rep. Bradley got attacked for that position and he was just running for state rep.

He could have paused a little bit but what he said is correct.

More Freedom = More Prosperity

More Government = Less Liberty = More Poverty

If you are talking to a potential "Blue Republican" - just point out that most education funding is already within the state, and the Federal level is very unpopular, maybe even disastrous (just mention No Child Left Behind - I am yet to meet a teacher who is a fan of that.) Cutting the Dept. of Education leaves more money in the states so they can deal with education in a location-appropriate way.

I am a teacher, and NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND WAS AND STILL IS STUPID!!! Poorly implemented and the only thing Obama does with it is change its name to Race to the Top. That too is another joke. Cut the Dept. of Ed, I'll manage. I just can't wait to tell all the NEA union people to start raising a stink. Oh I can't wait to start telling them off (of course as nicely as possible so I don't look like a RP kook:D)

No, he did not say that.

You need to be working on the campaign staff.

I would give my right arm for a campaign manager. And enough funding to pay one.

Not just attacked, attacked HARD. Only reason it didn't work is because people thought it was so crazy that it couldn't possibly be true. My opponent spent something like $75,000 hitting me on the 17th Amendment alone.

It is my intent to produce a 10th Amendment nullification bull against NCLB (RTTT) should I win my race for NC Senate.

Gunny,
Unfortunately I'm up here in Michigan but if I was teaching in NC, you'd have my vote brother.
