With the nation’s Latino population booming and now the country’s largest minority group, the Obama administration’s top Hispanic official is concerned that the federal government is not giving enough attention to Hispanic history and culture.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar in the past year has pushed the National Park Service to identify more sites or properties related to the histories of women and minorities that could be added to the National Register of Historic Places or be preserved as national parks or historic landmarks.

“Less than 3 percent of all the national landmarks that we have — the highest designation you can receive as a historic landmark — are designated for women, Latinos, African Americans or other members of minority groups,” Salazar said in a meeting with reporters last week. “That tells you that the score is not even.”

WTh is a latino themed national landmark ? I often refer to my beer as cerveza while drinking in the park , does that count ?? I would think national landmarks would refer to Americans .

I guess Interior Secretary Ken Salazar doesn't visit these sites. Most of the folks at such sites tend to be white or Asian.

What he meant "Yellow stone and other national parks only attract the white man. Lets find a way to bleed more money into the parks department".

White people aren't dying fast enough for their liking. If the white people would just wilt away, the world will be an infinitely better place. LOL Have you ever seen this?

Lots of hispanics are here legally.

Apparently there are over 44 million latinos in the US. We've all heard the estimates of around 12 million illegals residing in the US, not all latino of course, so indeed there must be at least 32 million legal latinos living in the US.

Some of these legal latinos are RP supporters who I've canvassed with and whom I suppport tremendously.

Ahh... I see. You would be correct sir, but now that you mention it I can definitely see the potential for Casa Bonita in an episode of south park :)

I might actually go to a theme park if there were people drinking, barbecuing and dancing 24/7....even if I can't understand a single word they say.

This is funny because just the other day, I was talking with a friend about how California needs more English-based city names. :P
