Protest at Congressman Michael Grimm’s Staten Island Office Tonight
October 10, 2011
4:30 pm – 7:00 pm EST
265 New Dorp Lane Staten Island NY (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=265+New+Dorp+Lane+Staten+Island+NY&hl=en&hnear=265+New+Dorp+Ln,+Staten+Island,+Richmond,+Ne w+York+10306&gl=us&t=m&z=16&vpsrc=0)
Congressman Grimm of Staten Island, who was elected to office in 2010 with the support of the Tea Party, made news yesterday by giving his endorsement to the one presidential candidate most out of step with Tea Party values: Former Governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney. Mitt Romney has a history of being on the wrong side of key Tea Party issues, including his support for the TARP Bank Bailouts and universal healthcare.

When there are several authentic Tea Party candidates in the presidential race, including Michelle Bachmann, Ron Paul, Herman Cain, and Rick Perry, many Tea Partiers are asking, “Has Congressman Grimm sold us out for the GOP establishment? Has he already been co-opted by Washington?”

Tea Partiers from all camps (including supporters of Bachmann, Paul, Cain, and Perry) are rallying in protest of Congressman Grimm. We will be protesting Grimm’s endorsement tonight in front of his Staten Island office. We have a sound permit and speakers in attendance. Media are welcome to cover the event.

If you can make it. Please do. Bring RP gear/signs,and usually best not to argue why we don't like other represented candidates. Advocate why we do support Paul

(A thirty year record of integrity, and sound solutions to our troubles)

Wouldn't hurt to remind them of how well we do against Obama ;)

Widening the tent...

:D

"Tea Party" What the hell does that mean anymore? A bunch of neo-con war mongers with a new moniker? What we started in '07 is dead. Where is the spirit of 07? We need to revive it quick, and reject the Tea Party name as it has been completely co-opted. The Brown Shirts are marching on Wall Street with all the complete counter culture and nihilistic fervor of the 60's and the best that we can do is Mitt Romney and The Tea Party gay-ass Express. We need people out in there physically calling these pukes out where ever they show up in public. Seriously, WTF has happened? We sit back and wait for the media to throw us a bone tonight in the debate, but we know the fix is in.

Members of the Tea Party rebelled against Staten Island Rep. Mike Grimm yesterday for backing Mitt Romney for president.

Dozens of Tea Party types -- mostly backers of White House candidate Ron Paul -- protested outside Grimm’s Staten Island district office for endorsing Romney, whom they consider the least representative of conservative Tea Party values.

They accused Grimm, the freshman Republican congressman elected last year with strong Tea Party backing, of betraying his supporters -- sending a message that is sure to be heard by other candidates backed by the Tea Party in 2010.

“We’re disappointed with his early selection of Romney. It’s clearly not the choice of Mr. Grimm’s constituents,’’ said Tina Downer, 47, an office administrator.

Danny Panzella, 34, an island political activist, said, “There are a bunch of Tea Party candidates for president, and Romney is not one of them.”

He said Paul, Michele Bachmann and Herman Cain were all preferable to Romney.

Grimm endorsed Romney yesterday -- just days after his political mentor, Staten Island GOP power broker Guy Molinari, backed the former Massachusetts governor. He’s the first New York congressman to back Romney.

Many Tea Party activists say they don’t trust Romney because of his support of universal health care in Massachusetts, the model for ObamaCare, and his evolving positions on core issues like abortion.

“We supported this guy [Grimm], and look what he does. He shouldn’t endorse a candidate for president who isn’t aligned with the Tea Party,’’ fumed Nick Spanos, an organizer of the Greater New York Tea Party.

“We’re fiscal conservatives. We’re pro-life. Romney is a flip-flopper from Massachusetts. He’s a RINO [Republican in name only]. He’s a pink-tie Republican.”

Louis Perrotta, a Brooklyn Republican who knocked on doors and distributed literature to help elect Grimm, said the congressman’s endorsement of Romney was a punch to the gut.

“I’m upset with Grimm endorsing Romney, who represents the least change from the status quo. For me, it’s anybody but Romney, but Ron Paul is my favorite,’’ he said.

Molinari, the dean of the island GOP, personally confronted the protesters in front of Grimm’s office on New Dorp Lane. He said they were out of line and naive.

“Mitt Romney, all the polls indicate, presents the best chance to beat Barack Obama. Ron Paul will never beat Obama. He’s going to hurt us and hurt the Republican Party,” he said.

Molinari, in a separate Post interview said, “Are they serious in thinking Ron Paul is electable? What country do they live in?”
