"We didn't know enough and we still don't know enough," he said. "Most of us - me included - had a very superficial understanding of the situation and history, and we had a frighteningly simplistic view of recent history, the last 50 years," he said.

That had to be hard to admit.

Even harder to deny it.

It would be awesome to get his endorsement. As far as I see he does owe anyone anything so he is free to do what he wants.

mcChrystal is a well honed can of worms worse than macArthur in his heyday.
it would be nice if he goes political, maybe, but his deeper alliances as a team
player may dominate his thoughts & impulses. if he's sitting this out he is wise.
if he plunges in, his meglomania is equal to aaron burr's. he's too involved to be
simply civilian. he's got quite a few things to explain in terms of who he once was.

Is clueless-in-chief going to invite him for a beer to straighten this out?

It feels strange to say it, but where's Robert McNamara when you need him?

Holding your breath?

So he's pretty much admitting this is an unwinnable war and a giant mistake, right? Wrong. He thinks, a decade into it, that we're "half-way" towards reaching our goals, whatever they are, whenever we figure out how to explode them into existence.

Well, we're more than half way to reaching our stated goal. Our stated goal was to get bin Laden, and that bastard's dead and sunk to the bottom of the ocean. So, what are we still doing there? Trying to leave it stable? The place was there before the Soviet Union was created, and it broke the Soviet Union and did even more than we did to bury it.

Or are we really there to complete a natural gas pipeline from Georgia to the West, just as the Soviets were there to complete a natural gas pipeline? And if we do complete it, who pray tell will pocket the profits? Certainly not the natural gas-rich state of Oklahoma, which will see our economy suffer if this additional source drives the price of the stuff down...

We need a specific legislative bill to rally around & try & end the wars.
