Rival and fellow Texan Rep. Ron Paul wanted to talk about other things. "I have no idea what the circumstances were,” Paul said when asked about the controversy while campaigning in New Hampshire Monday, “but in this day and age to try to turn something around and make him say that he endorsed using that word - I think we should worry about the wars, and assassinations, the economy, not trying to find out some way that you're going to blame Perry.”

great response...and media turn-around in 3...2...1...

I know that is just Ron being Ron, but something inside wants me to think he has an endorsement on his mind when he doesn't use these things to his advantage. :P

Oh, to imagine what Perry would be saying if it were the other way around.

Gotta love Ron, he is an amazing person. Great response to the media fishing for a fight.

Actually this was played well politically. Attacking Perry on this would just invite the same kind of attack in response that Herman Cain got from Rush Limbaugh.

Interesting quote at the end,

“There are growing doubts in the GOP that he could be a credible candidate against Obama. Republicans are concerned that Perry's missteps might make the race a referendum on the challenger instead of the incumbent. That's the campaign Obama wants and it scares Republicans to death.”

No one but Paul will insure a referendum on the incumbent. No one but Paul...

That's the media angle now...paint the GOP candidates as racist/homophobic/etc. because of insufficiently robust condemnation. Perry is racist because he didn't take care of the rock quick enough (even though it wasn't his property). The whole field is homophobic because they didn't speak up against the booing of the gay soldier. A similar attack is most certainly coming up (again) for Dr. Paul.

While I'm personally happy anytime Perry gets in hot water, Dr. Paul has to keep a consistent position in order to ward off these types of attacks. Coming down on Perry on this would backfire on him.

Yeah. I actually got into an argument of sorts with one of the traditional Republicans on my FB. After one of the debates, he asked me if Paul had ever directly contrasted himself with Obama. I said I didn't know, but probably not, because Paul tends to make it a point not to personalize positions, and that talks about issues instead of people.

The guy said, "So, then, you're telling me that he hasn't contracted himself against Obama. That's what I thought." Implying of course that since Paul wasn't calling out Obama by name he was a closet liberal or something.

Sigh. This country is so effed up.
