Texas Republican Party changes primary plan to comply with RNC

The change will be noticable on the evening of March 6, when it should be easier to quickly determine how each candidate fared in Texas. If, say, Rick Perry, Mitt Romney and Ron Paul equally split the primary vote in Texas next year, then each will get a third of the state's delegates. In 2008, calculating the delegate allocation would have involved looking closely at the results in each congressional district.

Elam said he was confident the RNC will deem the new system as in compliance with RNC rules.

Frankly, we might have been better off the other way, since we tend to 'pick up' delegates in the caucus process. Then again, they stole them all at the end, anyhow....

so, it is what it is.

Unfortunately as candidates drop out, the delegates essentially become party establishment placeholders it seems...

So the RNC rule is that all primaries have to apportion delegates on a proportional basis? How many states are following this rule?

Not sure why they say March; the primary shifts to April starting next year.

There's ways to get around strict proportional allocation. Some states can do winner take all per Congressional District and only proportionally allocate the at-large delegates. The rules for each state should be available by the end of the month.

What do you mean? Isn't Texas' Presidential Primary scheduled for March 6? If it's not, do you have a source for another date?

Texas (last I heard) was slated for March 6th, 2012 (Super Tuesday). RNC rules for 2012 state that any state primary held before 4/1/2012 must participate in proportional distribution of delegates; no winner takes all contests prior to 4/1.
