These people have no interest in freedom. They're more akin to jilted lovers - they're mad not because the Fed gave away money, but because the Fed gave money to some other girls.

You can read this "Request for Proposal" right here. Posted below are some of the key quotes from the document (in bold) with some of my own commentary in between the quotes....

"The intent is to establish a fair and equitable partnership with a market leader who will who gather data from various social media outlets and news sources and provide applicable reporting to FRBNY. This Request for Proposal ("RFP") was created in an effort to support FRBNY's Social Media Listening Platforms initiative."

A system like this is not cheap. Apparently the Federal Reserve Bank of New York believes that gathering all of this information is very important. In recent years, criticism of the Federal Reserve has become very intense, and most of this criticism has been coming from the Internet. It has gotten to the point where the Federal Reserve Bank of New York has decided that it had better listen to what is being said and find out who is saying it.

"Social media listening platforms are solutions that gather data from various social media outlets and news sources. They monitor billions of conversations and generate text analytics based on predefined criteria. They can also determine the sentiment of a speaker or writer with respect to some topic or document."

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York intends to listen in on "billions of conversations" and to actually determine the "sentiment" of those that are participating in those conversations.

Of course it will be those conversations that are "negative" about the Federal Reserve that will be setting off the alarm bells.

"Identify and reach out to key bloggers and influencers"

Powerful stuff.

I didn't see anything to suggest communism there, so it seemed a lot more powerful that way. These people are directing their rage toward the right institution. If we can just pique their interest in the fed instead of "Wall Street", we might have a breakthrough. In fact, I would support something like this after the election held by Paul supporters. Whether or not Paul wins, it would be great to have another march on Washington, or an "occupy the fed" thing that is bigger than ever. It would be great.

How many supporters were at the last march on Washington?

It's shocking and depressing to see so many on these boards dismiss all the protesters out of hand, grouping them together and insulting them in various ways.

You dismiss them the same way some might dismiss you -- without understanding, without compassion, without realizing we're all in this together.

These people are trying to change things at root level, just like we are. Of course not everyone agrees on everything, and you can cherry-pick idiots or signs from any movement as 'representative' of the whole, but that sort of crass logic is always false.

These are our fellow citizens, in an uproar about banking and the Fed. That's huge. Support them. Educate them. Join them, if you can. Present your message.

Or, you can wait on the sidelines, dismissing every movement because 'it's not quite right', waiting for the world to agree with you, where you get veto rights over every sign held up high, over every word spoken. Good luck with that.

Generalizing or stereotyping is not collectivism. This has been pointed out more than a few times already on this forum!

This phenomenon looks like a leaderless movement without clearly defined objectives besides the "fed up, had enough" sentiment with some leftist/indie/anarchist and some libertarian zeals blended together. Sort of left wing version of "Tea Party". But it seems very organic and has potential to become something bigger especially if it remained non-partisan, other "fed up" schools of thoughts joined in and it doesn't let itself to be astroturf'd like later commercial versions of Tea Party.

One of the slogans I liked so far is OMG (Obama Must Go) lol

OK, I looked up the definition of collectivism:

The practice or principle of giving a group priority over each individual in it.
http://oxforddictionaries.com/definition/collectivism?region=us

Is this not what you are advocating? You are generalizing the group and assigning it an identity without considering anything at an individual level. I mean, I understand that these people are probably not going to be 100% with us at all times, but to me it defies logic to shun people who are at least rightfully angry about the Fed. There is nothing wrong with education. This has to be like, the 8th time I've posted something about these protests. Can anyone explain why some of you are all upset over this?

Everyone is angry at the same things. Both socialists and capitalists are angry at poverty. Both are angry about what they think is theft. Both are angry at joblessness. Both are angry at corruption etc. etc. etc...

The problems are not what the issue is. The issue is the solutions being advocated.

Socializing the banks further is not the way to fix any problem we are in. The Occupy Wallstreet protestors are wrong. They are misled. They are fundamentally in error from everything I've seen and read from them. The solutions they advocate for are why they are wrong.

...

The problems are not what the issue is. The issue is the solutions being advocated.

...

The people responsible for creating the problems to begin with are also just as responsible for offering the solutions that no one likes. They create a problem and are the same ones that offer the creative solution to the very problem they created. I say nay, it is not the solutions that are the problems, it is the people who create both the problems and the false solutions that need to be dealt with.

These people are ripe for education, yes. Give them a moment to come down from their healthy fit of passion, and then give them some tools of logic to use as arguments against fiat money.
