Well, he's going to the right places and doing the right things. If he just increases his popularity with over 55 voters by several percentage points, it will be a big deal to his position in New Hampshire. He doesn't have to win over the one or two who clearly were loaded for bear at the senior center -- but I'll bet they didn't expect the depth of answer they got to their questions! :D

Exactly - this article was very encouraging to read. Ron is doing the hard stuff - facing the business leaders and seniors. I think it's crucial that he's doing those things. And in that group of seniors, for one really hard-headed person, he probably won over a lot of people. Seniors often don't say much, but they will be thinking upon it for a while... He planted the message. Chances are, some of these seniors will even spread the message.

I remember Rand doing the same thing, and he said if he won over 10 or 20 percent of the Establishment it would be enough. Obviously he was right. :D There's also a matter of dampening the Establishment's opposition.

Friou came back for another round with Paul.
Paul asserted that bringing home the troops will benefit the economy by cutting government expenditures and allowing servicemen and women to spend their pay at home, instead of in Germany, Korea or other countries where the United States has military bases, and then contribute to growing the economy - just like at the end of World War II.
No, Friou said, didn't Dwight Eisenhower's interstate highway system and the GI Bill help?
Paul replied, in a characteristically long answer, that no, in his view, that all came much later and was paid for with the taxes raised from the successful return of the troops to the workforce.
After the program, Friou said he wasn't convinced.
"He still spoke in generalizations, and I didn't hear anything that convinced me to vote for him," he said.
LOL....right. Like any other candidate would have had the faintest clue on how to answer a question about economics circa WWII. This guy sounds like either a plant or a hardcore lib, possibly a college professor with his head up his ass. If he expects to get ANYTHING but "generalizations" from the other candidates, he's in for quite a shock.

Yea, the heckler was obviously disappointed that he didn't upset Paul's game. The difference from other candidates is, you can have a meaningful conversation with Paul... I hope he tries to get specifics out of others - I really do. Maybe he's just looking for someone to agree with his views ONLY. There are those kinds of people out there, a lot of them.

At least one man, sitting in the front row, was easy to convince.
"Do you drive a foreign or domestic car?" he asked.
"I drive a Ford," Paul said. "I wanted to buy domestic, but it became really hard because so many of the companies were taking government bailouts, but Ford didn't, so I bought one."
"I'll vote for you," the man said.
Awesome!

I thought dr. paul drove an older non-ford (but still domestic) car.

Maybe paul should start off saying "I drive a ford" everywhere he goes. Bound to win him a vote and save people time :-D

I drive an Oldsmobile. That old-timer probably would have appreciated that. :D

Well if he bought this one based on bailouts, it must be pretty new.

Besides the far left entitlement generation, seniors are the most selfish voters as many of them are the most financially vulnerable. For many of them SS is all they have. The establishment has kept them scared. Many of them don't care what happens after they are gone. They just want to finish with the system they paid into for so many years.

I'm not sure selfish is the right word if someone has been forced to pay in for something all their lives so couldn't invest that money differently, and now relies on it. Ron's plan works because it funds what was committed (as best it can be) but lets others opt out so they won't be in the same position themselves.

This is Ron talking directly to those who are afraid of his foreign policy. It's great. When you're not in a room full of supporters, you shouldn't expect cheers all around, unless you stick to popular talking points.
One step at a time.

Maybe it's his car in Texas, not sure. Think he drives a Buick in D.C., which, I can just picture him doing. It's too bad it's a LeSabre and not a Roadmaster, the equivalent of a land yacht.

I agree. And Ron doing this is so much better than rallying hardcore supporters and saying the same thing over and over.
Hard works will pay off. Thank you Dr. Paul.

I have to agree that more seniors agree with Paul's principles than we think.
My grandfather is an air Force vet and it 2007, he was adamently against Paul's stance on foreign policy.
After years of debating - we spent an entire afternoon together on his 85th birthday over the summer and talked politics the entire time.
Subsequently, he donated to Rand's campaign and is voting Paul for 2012 no matter what. Amazing how a few years changes minds.

Who cares about the seniors? They are the reason we are in this mess we are in....
Hehe..... mmm
Actually I am glad paul is trying to connect with seniors. I think a very effective strategy would be to snail mail all retirement home and assisted living communities a campaign letter. It should go like this - "the other guys are liars and nwo plants. I will fight to protect the ss system that you have payed into, while working to fix it for future generations"
I believe it would be enormously effective.

Maybe Ron would win if he started talking in vague generalities and counting with his hands.
Name that candidate.

Well like Rand, even if people don't agree with them, as long as Ron is friendly and cordial to them they may still vote for him.
