This immigration stuff is really easy to demagogue. Actually it is the ANTI - IMMIGRANTS that have jumped onto the Democrats bandwagon over the past few years.

For example, it is not a crime to enter the United States or even be here without papers. It is a civil violation of the law which makes it unlawful, but certainly not illegal. The word "illegal" carries the connotation of a criminal act.

When George W. Bush was in office, his U.S. Attorney General, Michael Mukasey ruled that being in the U.S. was no crime and the undocumented foreigners were not entitled to a court appointed attorney in deportation proceedings since immigration is a civil not a criminal process. It was Eric Holder, Obama's boy, that over-ruled Mukasey and gave 12 MILLION undocumented foreigners the opportunity to get a lawyer at taxpayer expense. This clearly puts the anti-immigrants in the same boat as Obama. The liberals are the ones that cannot read the law and think we're talking about criminal laws instead of civil law.

Secondly, NOBODY can be an "illegal" anything until they've been arrested, booked, made bail, went to a preliminary hearing, gone through the discovery process, tried in court, found guilty, and sentenced. For the anti-immigrants to continue to call undocumented foreigners "illegal aliens" is incorrect from a legal standpoint AND, worse, it sets a dangerous precedent to presume a person is guilty of a crime absent Due Process. I can promise the anti - immigrants, it won't look pretty when it's THEM being judged by the same standards they are setting.

As much as I distrust Rick Perry, this issue goes to show that even a broken clock has the potential to be right twice a day.
