welfare state and nanny state are synonymous.

Dr Paul wants a personal responsibility state.

Sad thing is, the past two generations have been raised in an environment which shielded them from that responsibility, so it scares them to be faced with it.

I remember seeing this political cartoon like two years ago when bush was pushing for Soc Sec reform. it had two identical images, side by side. the setting was a doorstep to a home. only homeowner spoke in both images, both times in disbelief.

the first image said:
1925: "You mean you want me to make the government responsible for my retirement?!"
the second image:
2005: "You mean you want me to make ME responsible for my retirement?!"

this is the federal teat to which they've all grown accustomed. :rolleyes:
