The all-time record for single-day fundraising during the primary season is $2.3 million. Ron Paul has raised over $1.7 million today as of this writing. Gee, you think he'll beat it?

A little after 9:30AM/EST, the GOP presidential campaign Nov 5th fund-raiser for Congressman Ron Paul (R-Tex) passed $1 million and continued to climb rapidly.

Analysis: Supporters of Ron Paul and astonished media are likely watching history-in-the-making, an unheard-of political fund-raising event generated outside of the campaign itself and symptomatic of the deep support that the Jeffersonian-conservative candidate has garnered

This is from today's Chuck Muth's News & Views:

HAPPY RON PAUL DAY!

Many of GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul's supporters are tactless,
offensive, pain-in-the-Clymers. Just ask RedState.org, which recently
banned most Ron Paul supporters from posting on their blog. Indeed, if
there's a free copy of Dale Carnegie's "How to Win Friends and
Influence People" available online, I heartily commend it to Paul's legions.

That being said, I've been impressed with the passion of his
supporters, even though many are what I consider "newbies." Some of us have
known about and supported Congressman Paul for a long time, long before it
was "cool." But I welcome these new champions of liberty and applaud
their grassroots organizing efforts, especially how well they've used
the Internet for grassroots mobilization.

Which brings us to today's Ron Paul Day. Paul's supporters are
attempting to get 100,000 people to contribute $100 or more to Paul's campaign
today, hoping to raise $10 million in one day for their candidate.
Heck, if they even pull in a tenth of that, it'd be pretty darned
impressive. If you'd like to join the crowd and kick in a hundred bucks or
more to keep the Ron Paul campaign kicking, just click HERE. http://www.RonPaul2008.com

Note: Chuck Muth is a long-time supporter of Ron Paul, so not today, but maybe in the near future it might be worthwhile to consider what he's saying about how we're being perceived.

At this point, Paul's ability to raise money is not in question. But his skill in translating that sizable campaign treasury into voters at the caucuses and primaries still is.

This is odd....at the beginning of his radio show today, Sean Hannity said he was going to have the latest election coverage, but so far all I've heard is discussion of Hillary's performance in the last democratic debate. No mention of Ron Paul or today's news. He must have covered it while I was taking out the trash.

thought romney raised 6.5m rallying his wallstreet buddies

The way Romney manages his campaign funds, if he raises 6.5 million, he'll have spent 6.8 million by the end of the day. He's spent something like 60 million and is hovering at 4th place?

Romney simply can't manage money, despite his claims of being a great businessman (sort of like the way "businessman" Bush can't manage money either).

Ron Paul can get more out of 2.5 million than Romney can get out of 10 million.

I think it's more like, Romney has a lot more to manage. He transfers so much of his own money it's ridiculous. At least when he doesn't get the nomination he'll be out like $30 million :)

What indeed! I've always enjoyed WIRED but I am cancelling my subscription after their purposeful attacks.

I think the Wired article is probably a bit more nuanced than we're giving credit. Wired, of all people, do not equate having internet popularity with being a "fringe candidate." I read that line as being somewhat tongue-in-cheek.

And, let's be honest - imagine you were new to the campaign and read about this 72 year old baby doctor from Texas who just achieved a record breaking day of fundraising, via a privately organized V for Vendetta-themed internet campaign. At first glance it may well surpass the Buchanan/Fulani ticket in sheer oddness.

The guys at Wired have a keen sense of irony, and this surely appealed to it. Given their overall readership, the article is probably fine publicity for Dr. Paul. My dad would react less positively, but my dad doesn't read Wired.

Ridiculous

He is RABIDLY opposed to Dr. Paul because Dr. Paul is against the war in the middle-east. Anyway, after announcing the fund-raising totals (and he actually got them right), he went on to point out that even though Dr. Paul is raising lots of money, that he's "at the bottom" in the polls. He then went on to say that Dr. Paul 'certainly can't blame the low poll numbers on the media any more"!!! EDIT: One excerpt of a comment:
the question I keep asking myself is this:

As I see it, the biggest extant threat to the American way of life is the Federal government. Would Paul or Clinton do a better job of neutralizing that threat?

I suspect that under Clinton, we'd have business as usual. Under Paul, well, batshit insanity would follow, but if he tears down half of the right things in his rampage, it might be for the best in the long term. We can always rebuild, but we need to raze a few areas of Washington to the ground first.

I posted the above yesterday and just listened to Mr. DelGiorno spend 20 minutes reading hateful emails from (supposed) Ron Paul supporters that were emailed to him yesterday. I'm not trying to claim that the emails he received came from folks on this forum but I AM wanting to make a plea for CIVILITY and GOOD MANNERS when dealing with ANYONE in the media!! The emails that Mr. DelGiorna read on the air just now make us ALL look like maniacs who can't say anything intelligent.

I KNOW it's hard to be civil when dealing with some of these media personalities but, if we REALLY want to win over hearts and minds of the people who LISTEN to these media types, being irate, calling people names, coming off in a threatening manner or just bashing anyone who disagrees with us is NOT winning any friends for us or for Dr. Paul.

There is a PROPER way to disagree with people and giving them fuel for their fire by coming across as confrontational is NOT the proper way.

Okay, I'm done now but just HAD to get that off my chest.:(
