One Year After Beating University of Maryland Student John J. McKenna, Two Maryland Police Officers Indicted

On March 3, 2010, the University of Maryland mens basketball team defeated Duke in a major upset. That night two Prince George's County police officers dressed in riot gear beat the living shit out of an unarmed UM student who was, along with many other students, celebrating victory in the streets outside the arena. More than a year later, and thanks to a rather explicit video, those officers have been indicted and charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and misconduct in office, according to the Washington Post.

According to State’s Attorney Angela D. Alsobrooks, who was elected earlier this year, the investigation got off to a slow start because PG County police were reluctant to cooperate. The attorney representing indicted officer Reginald Baker is already waging a public campaign against the state's attorneys office. "This case is not about police misconduct," William C. Brennan told WaPo. "It is about the lawlessness and destructive riots following University of Maryland athletic events."

In the video, one of the attorneys quote, "clearly there is not a single fact in that statement of charges that is true" (of officer's sworn statements)

Officer's sworn statements clearly contradict video evidence. Why are they not also being charged with perjury?
