For those who have missed the recently popular GOP talking point, many GOP candidates (and non-candidates) have said that they would like to increase income taxes on the poor, who do not pay their fair share. They are calling it "broaden the tax base".

The Colbert Report put together video of Bachmann, Perry, Romney, Huntsman, Boehner, and Paul Ryan pretty much using the exact same phrase while pushing for increasing income taxes.

The segment:

This segment came before, and is somewhat related:

I hate the phrase "pay their fair share". As if equalizing slavery is a virtue. I mean, the phrase is fine if a group of friends are pitching in for a pizza, but outside of that, no.

Guess it's not surprising that Bachmann wants to "expand the customer base" of her former employer.

It's all BS... I still think of George Carlin saying, "And now they're coming for your retirement money, they want your fuckin social security. You know what? They'll get it, they'll get it all..."

We don't need to force them to pay their fair share. We need to enable them to do so!

And all the crabs in the pot, reach up and pull the one that was almost to the rim, back into the pot.

At least they won't get any video of Ron Paul saying he wants to "broaden" the income tax base. This issue could really help Ron Paul stand out from the other GOP candidates that are saying this. This could potentially be a huge win for Ron Paul if this subject comes up on his next interview on the Daily Show with John Stewart.

The U.S. government would be a lot smaller if more people were forced to pay federal income tax. People would be a lot more willing to do away with their favorite government program if they actually had to personally (and directly) foot the bill for it, instead of having the funding surreptitiously stolen from them through inflation.

That's the theory behind medical co-payments. It hasn't lowered the cost of the medical industry, but it has caused some people not to go to the doctor very much anymore.

If you make people (who are completely dependent) on SS or welfare pay some Federal Income tax at the end of the year, will they have any extra cash to pay it? Or do you start deducting directly from their payments? At that point, all you have really done is lower their payment, and they don't have to directly make a payment. The other downside is now you have more people under the boot of the IRS, where they will potentially get in trouble for not filing, and/or for not paying.

Abolish the income tax and IRS. There's a solution.
