I wonder how much it costs taxpayers to prosecute & jail them?

So, add that $30.7 billion that the states will spend, to the federal amount of $23.44 billion and you'll get $54.14 billion total, which means that the War on Drugs will cost American taxpayers...http://actionamerica.org/drugs/wodclock.shtml

I suspect there are opportunity costs too since we could be a major exporter of hemp and hemp products. Our imports should decrease not just do to local sources but because legalizing the trade would drive prices down. An entire industry would be paying taxes instead of costing taxpayers money. As for the laid off warriors, they would have to find more productive opportunities like focusing on reducing personal crime (thefts, assaults).
