View Full Version : Anyone catch Leno hit Ron Paul during his monologue tonight?

I had it on in the background and wasn't really paying attention until I heard Ron Paul's name in the punchline and perked up, but he basically cracked a joke that Ron Paul thinks uninsured people should die. I think the video should be up later tonight on the NBC website. That is the 2nd night in a row his show has hit Ron Paul BTW - last night there was a skit where they basically called him really crazy.

UPDATE: video is up (@2:51)
http://www.nbc.com/the-tonight-show/video/monologue-part-1-91411/1355371/

UPDATE #2: Leno went after Ron Paul for the 3rd night in a row Thursday night, this time right out of the gate at the beginning of the show.
http://www.nbc.com/the-tonight-show/video/Monologue-Part-1-91511/1355678

UPDATE #3: Dr. Paul also made Conan Thursday night, but received much friendlier treatment.
http://teamcoco.com/video/political-photoshop-frauds

UPDATE #4: Leno hit Ron again Friday night for the 4th night in a row. He was doing his Rodney Dangerfield schtick about how bad the economy is and he said "The economy is so bad, today Ron Paul said "Let it die!"".

UPDATE #5: Leno jabbed Ron Paul both Monday and Tuesday night too, but this time a little more lightheartedly. The streak stands at 6!

More good news. Ron is making it into the big time now. I hope the left continues to hit him hard. It will do wonders for him in the GOP primary.

Ron Paul being attacked by the left wing media is the best thing that could happen to you in a GOP primary.

Exactly my thoughts - means he's officially relevant

Next step: The campaign should contact Leno and ask for an opportunity for Paul to be his guest to respond.

Of course Leno will be kind to the Ron, as it is not his style to be rude or mean in person, just to crack jokes. Ron will be comfortable and win the crowd over with his humor and personality, be able to explain some of his viewpoints in a way that makes people think, and all this in front of millions of viewers at home.

It took me off guard for a second. I was pretty surprised to hear RP make a big-name monologue, even if it was a negative comment. Someone must be doing something right!

Don't read too much into it people, it is just comedy. They do jokes on anything and everything for that cheap laugh.

Jay Leno put RP on his show when Ron was excluded from the Republican debate, if I recall correctly. He's a comedian. You people take stuff way to seriously. Get a grip.

Good. I'd rather be getting lightly mocked on a fantastic answer, thus drawing attention to both the answer and to the candidate, then see him ignored. Getting him into the fronts of people's minds so they even know to look for him in the news and in debates is as important as positive press.

Exactly, starting early as a great many of us have this time around has paid off, and finally we are getting some recognition. The more and more his name is spoken, even in slander the more opportunities we have to expose the truth.

It has been said time and time again but to beat a dead horse (not that I encourage that type of thing) Victor Hugo once said that standing armies can be resisted, but an idea whose time has come cannot.

He was on there before, so maybe he could get on there again. It would be great.

Jay Leno just started his monologue with a joke about #RonPaul. At least he's not getting ignored as much now!

That makes it a second day in a row that Ron has been made fun of on Jay Leno show! Ha.

Hopefully a video will pop up. It was a picture of RP taken from the last debate but they dressed him up with photoshop like a DJ jammin on some keyboards to house music. It was good, especially since the same segment poked negatively at Perry for being proud of executing everyone in Texas.

That joke is total bullshit. Goes against everything Ron Paul stood for as a doctor. I'd like to cut Leno some slack since its his job to goof on everybody, but that one was so out of line with reality. At least it didn't get much reaction from the audience, just like his joke the night before.

Ron really needs to go on the show and set him straight.

One positive angle to this is that there is definitely a voting block that really believes that a person without insurance SHOULD be left to die. Ron Paul sew up that vote :)

Okay, so now the question is, do we wait for the campaign to contact Leno to request an appearance, or do we all send nice messages their way to ask him on to clarify his position?

Either way, the opportunity should be seized.

As someone that has personally met Leno, I can tell you he's a pretty decent guy. Don't take it too seriously.
I met Leno at the Tampa airport back in 1991, he raced me to a pay phone, Jay got on the pay phone and talked on it for 15 minutes, I was working as a chauffeur back in those days, and was pissed off because I needed to call my office and very few people had cell phones in those days... It was the only pay phone around, and gave Jay me a shit ass grin as he sat on the phone. I knew he was some comedy guy from Hollywood, but didn't know him much beyond that. Only thing I know is he was a phone hog... And a year later, I saw the same guy take over the Tonight Show. Not a good 1st impression of him...

Yeah, his name was mentioned during a joke about how much money Santorum has raised, and it was a positive mention because they showed Ron Paul in 2nd place raising $4.5 million. But right before that there was a joke about Ron that was not positive, as I noted a couple posts above.

Wow, I missed last night's (Monday) monologue and just now watched the video on the NBC website... Ron Paul was mentioned Monday too! So that's 6 nights in a row!!! If you want to see the video, it's at 5:15.
http://www.nbc.com/the-tonight-show/video/monday-september-19-2011/1356569/

Basically he said Ron Paul reminded him of Jeff Dunham's puppet "Walter", and compared the two side by side on the screen. Here is the screenshot if you don't feel like watching the video and waiting through a 60 second ad.

In case anyone was wondering the streak ended at 6 Wednesday night. Nothing Friday night either except they showed his image on the screen for a second. Thursday night though he cracked two jokes about Ron Paul, comparing him to Grumpy from The Seven Dwarfs (@1:25) and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (@3:58).
