I think the campaign has a lot they can do to build on Ron Paul's explanation of his Golden Rule of foreign policy. Dr. Paul has argued that if China was in the Gulf of Mexico that we would not want them there. That is true, but this can be built up to explain Ron's view point on a wider number of issues if it were framed differently.

Ask the American people how we would feel if China was waging wars, building military bases, deploying drone armies, toppling regimes, and propping up dictators in Central or South America. What would Americans think if it was happening in our back yard? Even if it wasn't happening to us directly, if you think about how we would respond to that sort of environment then you start to understand how people in the Middle East and around the world feel about our endless wars and policing the world.

This can lead into the War on Drugs. This ties into foreign policy because if we simply focused on helping treat drug addicts instead of having all these drug laws, this would do the same thing that happened when we repealed prohibition: competition would put the drug cartels out of business and the drug cartels would have a real hard time financing the violence we see today on our southern border. Ultimately this would reduce the risk to American lives we see on our border plus all those hundreds of millions of dollars that now flows to drug cartels would instead flow to American businesses and American workers.

If we are going to bring all the troops home, instead of building billion dollar bases in Iraq, why not build some bases in Arizona instead of having a federal bureaucratic put up signs warning Americans that travel is not recommended through an area because of drug and human trafficking? An armored division and a sniper school in the middle of the trafficking corridor ought to do the trick.

--The last suggestion is satirical, but if Ron Paul wants to secure the border without endorsing the idea of a border fence then in my mind it'd help his argument if he could offer something tangible in this regard. Some variation of this last argument might also help define the militarism vs defense issue as well as endear more primary voters to our cause.
