What is the point of the Book Animal Farm by George Orwell it says some Animals are more equal than others and that the Pigs had most of the Apples annd the Milk and that the Pigs got richer while the other Animals got poorer what does this have to do with Communism/Soviet Union/Stalin/Stalinism were the Communist Party Leaders Wealthy/Rich in terms of having most of the money/wealth/resources ?

Animal Farm
George Orwell

"Animal Farm" successfully presents how the mechanism of propaganda and brainwashing works in totalitarian regimes, by showing how the pigs could make the other animals believe practically anything. Responsible for the propaganda was Squealer, a pig that "could turn black into white". Squealer managed to change the rule from "all animals are equal" to" all animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others". He managed to convince the other animals that it was for their sake that the pigs ate most of the apples and drank most of the milk, that leadership was "heavy responsibility" and therefore the animals should be thankful to Napoleon, that what they saw may have been something they "dreamed", and when everything else failed he would use the threat of " Jones returning" to silence the animals. In this simple but effective way, Orwell presents the tragedy and confusion of thought control to the extent that one seems better off simply believing that" Napoleon is always right".

I so want to answer your question in full, but the part of me that wants you to read the book so you can answer it yourself wins out.

I promise you the book is well worth reading.

Mike, the book is short and it's an easy read. I highly recommend it.

1984 is even better, and more pertinent to the situation we find ourselves in today.

Happy reading! :)

since it sounds like you have a report or something due, i will mention this -- within the original set of 'commandments' was this one: "All animals are equal." The rest ("...but some animals are more equal than others") was added later.

The book is so short, you can absorb the entire thing in audio format in probably three or three 1/2 hours. It's a must-read/listen, IMO.

This is no Atlas Shrugged where it will take you at least several days to read it. Animal Farm is so short that you could read it cover to cover within a few hours if you were dedicated enough to do so. Now if this is not a question based on some report you need to do and instead based on actual confusion after reading the text than please correct me (and us) and I will be happy to discuss it with you.

I don't understand your question. Now go to the barn wall and re-read the rules.

Heck there's even a movie. I remember seeing it and thinking it captured the themes nicely.

Somebody has to control a communist society. Those who seek power pretend to be your friend but they aren't.

A society where people voluntarily engage in sharing of the fruits of their labor would be a free society. Of course that also means the person has the right to keep the things they produce.

The point of the book is to illustrate that communism/socialism goes against human nature since men are too greedy and selfish for such a system of government to by anything but tyrannical and oppressive.

Now were all men angles and there was no greed for wealth or power or desire to control other peoples lives or thoughts (sort of how I am in my more lucid moments, heh) then communism/socialism would work fine, but so long as their are liars who pretend to work for the 'common good' while actually working to advance themselves then they will inevitably turn any such system against those whom they see as enemies.

Even the most well-meaning and well-intentioned of us are only human and given enough power over others and no consenquences to abusing this power I imagine that even I would eventually misuse it, and it might be quite possible that I would have rationalized my actions so that I don't even know it.

When the evil and non-empathic among us get that sort of power then you have what we have today.

I thought Orwell was a socialist?
