I understand the comparison, but I think it is much too kind. Ponzi schemes are voluntary and implode when investors figure out what is going on. Social security is mandatory and is ambivalent to the wishes of those forced to pay in.

Which is why it isn't really a ponzi scheme. It's a bad, mandatory, investment.
