I had to drive downtown today to pick up a friend on Wall St & bring him to the airport. The area was on lockdown and luckily I left early. Via politeness and patience I was able to make it through the gauntlet, all the while remembering who and what has been lost. Returning, I walked through the streets from parking; streets thronging with NYFD is full dress. Some were in groups quietly laughing, others alone & emanating sadness... All I could think of and say was, "my condolences" ...onward
