This is the important part:

"Overall, just 20% of adults now believe the federal government should bear most of the financial responsibility for repairing areas affected by Hurricane Irene. Forty percent (40%) believe local agencies should take on most of the financial burden for repairing the storm-damaged areas, while 28% say it should be left to the individuals affected themselves."

So everybody who thought Ron's FEMA comments would hurt him can stop worrying. This issue has probably helped Ron.

Indeed, we need to build on it.

The whole point of federal involvement in such things is to help the poorer parts of the country get the same response going as the wealthier parts. Yet FEMA was in place in Connecticut before the storm hit, yet didn't get to Joplin until a full week had passed. This is progressivism?

Likewise, both the relatively wealthy residents of New Haven and the generally poorer people of Joplin are subject to the same federal tax code, yet New Haven is served by dozens of Amtrak trains a day and Joplin sees nary a one. What would Robin Hood say about taking from the poor and giving to the rich?
