Barron’s Jim McTague recently wrote an article highlighting GOP presidential contender Ron Paul’s investing strategy. Not surprisingly, the Texas Congressman has whipped the markets with his stock picks, which consist primarily of buying precious metals miners. The author of the Barron’s piece, hilariously, contends that Paul follows a “stopped clock” investment strategy which “finally seems to be paying off.” While he certainly is a long-term investor who rarely buys or sells, the idea that Paul’s strategy is all of a sudden paying off is ridiculous.

He is. Some of his stocks are up more than 1000% over the past ten years.

He outperforms many "expert" and "professional" investors.

I would be willing to wager he out performs 99% of them.

It is gratifying to see that Dr. Paul, with his "crazy" Austrian Economics, is beating the "experts" and their "economically sound" strategies. A good philosophy, as it turns out, can be revealed by its practical success. This makes me quite curious about Mitt Romney's portfolio.

Peter Schiff spoke up in Dr. Paul's defense (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSf2d-B3_Zg) a few days ago (and also discussed it in print (http://www.europac.net/commentaries/there_they_go_again)), in response to the hit piece by Barron's Jim McTague (http://online.barrons.com/article/SB50001424052702303822904576516114289723344.html)

The incredible thing is the lack of time and resources it takes to invest in this type of strategy compared to many of the other top investors that are...well below him..

Hey, if you know the ship is sinking, investment in a "lifeboat" is a no-brainer.

For Dr. Paul, the investment strategy was obvious because he could see the truth of things. The thing I find truly unbelievable is how so many so-called professional money managers are still laughing at him.

The pros would all rather invest in stocks like Apple, Netflix, and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters because those are "things people use every day," whereas precious metals are just a barbarous relic.

yet they don't realize that precious metals are used everyday. The electronics industry would come to a complete stand still if the sales and trade of physical precious metals were halted. Gold, silver and platinum are major players in the electronics industry. The space industry is all over them too. Even glass making makes good use of gold.

They're in the business of persuading people to buy stocks, and they'd much rather sell something sexy and new instead of things that are actually of real critical use like salt, precious metals, and rare earths. Even educated people get absurdly excited over new iPhones, whereas they get a blank look on their faces when you start talking about the silver and other metals that go into making those very electronics.

Simply put: Ron Paul is not only a hero but a genius as well.
