Well he got off easy. I wish I was a little German boy so I could get out of tickets. Cops only throw the book at their own citizens. When you live somewhere else they don't know how to do the paper work.

Visit USA.

Get threatened with ass rape.

Should do wonders for our tourism.

I'm reading in one of my biker mags the tale of a man riding a hardtail shovelhead across Iraq, Turkey and Syria.

He, (yeah, from the Great Satan) gets treated better by border soldiers than this poor guy.

1. The officer's hands were inside of the violator's vehicle... this is a no no. I would've have chewed his ass for that if I was his supervisor.
2. He didn't even ask for the driver's passport/visa.
3. They don't send you to jail for 95 in a 70... unless it was in a construction zone where it could kill other people. Of course, doing 150mph could send you to jail for a little while... depending on the judge and the circumstances lol. Reckless driving usually amounts to a heavy ticket; however, it's usually around $300.00—depending on the circumstances.
4. I have to at least give the officer props for the warning; however, he was still an idiot.

From Germany,,
likely had a hard time adjusting to our ridiculously low speed limits.
probably a more competent driver than most US drivers.

Yup

...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_limit
However, some roads have no speed limit for certain classes of vehicles. Best known are Germany (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germany)'s less congested Autobahns (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autobahn) where automobile drivers have no mandated maximum speed. Measurements from the German State of Brandenburg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandenburg) in 2006 show average speeds of 137 km/h (85 mph) on 4-lane sections, and 142 km/h (88 mph) on 6-lane sections, without mandatory speed limits

...

Autobahns accounted for 33% of German road travel in 2008,[61] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_limit#cite_note-71) but just 11% (495 of 4,477) of traffic deaths.

Yea, they're above the laws they enforce. There's a 50km/h speed zone by my house, and I see cops going through it at 100 km/h+ on a fairly regular basis, without sirens on. They also do radar there on a fairly regular basis and extort money from people who are often going way slower than they do. The hypocrisy is maddening.

Yep.... It used to be the law in my state that cruisers had to have lights or sirens on in order to exceed the speed limit. Not anymore... now you only have to be in a patrol vehicle since there was a lot of bitching about running silent to calls. I was a peace officer, and all that I needed to drive like a bat out of hell was a civilian drivers license! We didn't have a special drivers license or anything like that. Now they do offer a pursuit driving class at the full academy, but we didn't need to take it. We are just like any of you guys. What makes us any better? We have a badge?

There is no speed limit on most parts of autobahn. Germany is unique in Europe with that.

There is no speed limit on most parts of autobahn. Germany is unique in Europe with that.Yeah, usually there's only a speed limit of 120km/h (75mph) on the outskirts of cities or where terrain warrants it. The rest is without limit, but with a "recommended" speed limit of 150km/h (93mph) and a recommended speed of 130km/h. Most people don't care about it that and driving at 180km/h (112mph) is normal. Fastest I've been driving is 265km/h (165mph) and with a friend driving we made it up to 316km/h (196mph)....all legally.

Some of my Swiss friends say they get off because it is too hard for the cops to find their names on their drivers licenses (that was before Switzerland went to the same size that the US uses).

What car? Good gracious... that's fast. The fastest my car would ever go with ZR tires is 153mph (2000 Mustang GT). Some of the newer American muscle cars will go a bit faster (between 155 and 180 for some of the SRT-8's). That's fast enough lol. Although, there was a twin turbo Corvette awhile back which hit over 226mph!

LOL!

LOL The speedo on the VR4 read 182 flat out on the I5, but I'm assuming that it was exaggerating. I still got speed in the blood, but instead of breaking 170, I don't want to go to jail so I'm lucky to break 70. Only accident I've ever had was under 12 mph. I always rolled my eyes at people whining about safety, because I'm safer at 125 than I am at 60, and I'm safer at 125 than almost any driver on the road is at 60.

I don't speed like that anymore simply because I can't afford it, moneywise or recordwise. Not because I think it's so dangerous. I sort of become 'hyperaware' when driving at the speeds I'm actually comfortable with. At posted speeds I have to crank the radio and AC so as not to fall asleep. :D

I am, however, aware that if the vast, vast majority of Americans were to try driving over 100mph the result would be very, very bloody. The self absorbed pickled bastards would still be be eating sandwitches and gawking at themselves in the mirror using electric razors at 150.

I did 176 on my R1-that felt pretty fast.As far as Germans being better drivers, they are. It's very difficult and expensive to get a license in Germany it also takes a long time.......

If you get a speeding ticket in Germany, it only costs about 25 Euros. However, they take your picture and send the ticket in the mail. I speed all the time and rarely worry about getting a ticket. When I am back in the USA, I find it difficult to drive at the slower speed limits, but I really don't want a $200 ticket after having dealt with a police officer.

Getting a license here takes a long time and costs about 1200-1800 Euros! Luckily, my license was accepted and I only had to take an eye exam. However, my motorcycle license was not accepted and will cost me about 400-500 Euros to get if I wanted to do so! From experience, drivers are must better in Germany and more courteous than Americans.

I wonder what would happen if I showed my German license to a cop if pulled over in the USA.

Dude!!! I can't imagine going almost 200mph!

The panorama sort of 'tunnels' in. About 75 feet ahead, anything beyond 10 feet from the road appears to 'curve' over into a tunneling effect that extends to the horizon...but of course the further out you look the further from the roadside you can see clearly.
