Minutes later, Philadelphia police stopped the men and hauled them away in handcuffs.

When Dray asked why the men were being arrested, he said the officers replied, “for lack of common sense.”

What would be the city code for lack of common sense? Or just another example of arrest first, ask figure out a charge later?

“for lack of common sense.”

There's a law against that? They would have to put most people in jail if that's the case...

So to the cops, common sense would be to try to walk down a flooded street? I believe the most common sense way to travel on water is to float.

If that's the case, 99% of our politicians ought to be in jail.

Hmmm...

Come to think of it..... ;)

There are very few situations that can not be made worse by introducing a cop into the mix.

Three Felonies a Day.

Snap out of it people and wake up, we're all on way to the gulag before too much longer.

Edit: The article didn't say how the cops got to them. Were the cops in a boat or on foot?

Come on, humanity has only been using boats for 10,000 years. Common sense? I think not.

Well, perhaps the cops thought the men should be walking on water.

I bet the cop uses his loaded pistol to hammer stuff - with the safety off.

"I roll with my shit off safety".

Oink Oink Oink.

Can't believe he admitted to arresting someone "For a lack of common sense."

Cops and "common sense" should not be used in the same sentence.

That's it for you!!! Feet back and spread 'em. :)

We should send these cops to DC... they could round up all of congress in a few hours and arrest them for the same charge... "lack of common sense".

No, if they are to be in jail it should be for treason, theft, murder, and crimes against humanity.

I wonder. Did the person who got arrested roe them back to the station?

Sean

They were released without charges. Probably because they broke no law. They should immediately go back to their raft and float down the street again.

Not many people out legally carrying firearms in the bad weather; they had to find some reason to arrest folks.

That can be dangerous, too.

Common sense?!

I say they're geniuses. They can have fun when the flood isn't serious and they can save themselves if does get serious.

Imagine this scenario: The flood gets serious and those two guys see the cop who arrested them sitting on top of a roof alone, cold and starving. As they row past him, they flip him off.

Or they could make a citizen's arrest for a lack of common sense.

Arresting someone who is not doing anything wrong is quite mis guided . There should be discipline for this .

Well, I'm guessing that the boat didn't have the proper permits. That would be a general buoyancy permit, and an occupied floating device permit. If it was a wooden boat it would need to meet the proper EPA restrictions. Also if a wood boat, it might be considered a fire hazard so would need to pass an inspection before floating.

And of course it would require the proper (state specified) number of floatation devices.

Cops probably arrested them from their motorboat. They don't have to follow the laws they enforce, especially the ones that don't exist.
