I don't know how many of you are aware of a 97 year old woman from New Hampshire dubbed Granny D. She's an amazing woman who gained national and local attention for her 3200 mile walk across the US, "in an attempt to galvanize attention toward the importance of campaign finance reform and the rampant corruption in the electoral system."

It would be great to try and get someone like Granny D on our side. Especially since she's a political legend in NH.

This is her website (http://www.anonymz.com/?http://www.grannyd.com/about-grannyd.html#)

This is her contact info (http://www.anonymz.com/?http://www.grannyd.com/contact.html)

I hope that she comes along... I'm dubious about how well we can persuade someone who literally walked thousands of miles for the McCain-Feingold Act and the restrictions it seems to put on free speech. I truly don't know much about McCain-Feingold, but the part about restrictions on interest-group advertising sounds pretty bad in First Amendment terms.

McCain-Feingold is absolute garbage as far as I am concerned, but Granny D may appreciate the fact that Ron will NOT take lobbyist money.

I think she supports Mike Gravel. If Gravel drops, it's definitely a possibility.

Thanks for the clue. You're absolutely right.

'Granny D' endorses longshot hopeful

By Associated Press

KEENE -- Presidential hopeful Michael Gravel knows he has a long road ahead of him. But he's won the support of a prominent New Hampshire resident who gained fame despite similar long odds: Doris "Granny D" Haddock.

Gravel, a former Democratic senator from Alaska, is counting on Haddock's popularity to help him in his New Hampshire campaign.

"He's working for the same things that I'm doing," said Haddock, 96, who gained fame several years ago by walking coast to coast in the name of campaign finance reform. "But he's doing it in a grandiose way. It's just another way to get where we all want to get. Back to democracy."

Haddock endorsed Gravel on Thursday.

"The most important state to me in this campaign has got to be New Hampshire," Gravel said Thursday. "This is why Doris' endorsement is so significant. She really is an icon within the state."

Gravel appeared Thursday with Haddock at his side at Keene State College. He's visited New Hampshire about five times in recent months.

Gravel said he's rented an apartment in Manchester, and he intends to campaign hard in New Hampshire up until the primary and beyond, if possible.

Gravel said voters in New Hampshire "respect people who run for the presidency, and they know it's their job to evaluate those persons for the nation. "¦ It's an interesting responsibility."

Gravel said if elected, he promises an immediate withdrawal of all U.S. forces from Iraq.

"George Bush went to war for oil," Gravel said. "What George Bush defines as victory "¦ is we've got to keep control of the oil."

For years, Gravel has been working to spread word of his "national initiative," which looks to allow all citizens the right to propose and vote on legislation.

I wonder if she could be convinced to endorse Ron for the Republican primary? It would also give her a chance to mention Gravel again: "I still prefer Mike Gravel, but Ron Paul is my choice in the Republican field."

Did you see the note on this video?

"This has been updated, please go to the new version uploaded 10/30/07."

But, I don't see it anywhere. Do you?

I've been unable to find the updated version, as well.

Damn shame about her siding with Mike Gravel.

My feeling on the ground here is that Paul, Kucinich AND Gravel will all do far better in NH than most pundits are predicting. Kucinich seems to have a pretty strong grassroots following, because of one fellow in Nashua pumping hundreds of thousands of dollars in ads into NH for him, Mike Gravel actually "has" some money, and Ron... Well, Ron has BOTH now, doesn't he??? :D
