I just came back from partying in a samba club here in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I was dancing samba on foot and this tall blonde came over and was dancing near me, I opened my arms to her and she reached for my hands. She thought I wanted to dance together (it's customary, when dancing samba on foot, to open your arms to a woman dancing next to you). Anyway, I know some ballroom samba so we danced. There wasn't enough room for fancy stuff, so I sticked to the basic samba step turning around.

I figured she wasn't brazilian so I asked if she spoke English.

"Yes".

"Hah, you are from Switzerland!", tall and blonde, so that was my first guess.

"No".

"Sweden?"

"No, America."

"Oh great, who are you voting for president next year?"

"Not Bush!", she laughed.

"Are you republican or democrat?"

"Of course I'm a democrat!". It's very sad that Bush totally ruined it for republicans. Those other crappy candidates don't help either :(

So we danced for a while more. She wasn't doing the samba at all, but she was a lot of fun. I already had it all planned out: after dancing, we'd sit down, I'd tell her a bit about Ron Paul and maybe set this lost "gringo" on the enlightened path to freedom and prosperity!

Then two of her friends arrive and start talking to her. In these situations I usually ask the person to introduce me to their friends (they are probably americans I can talk to about Ron Paul too, yay!). So I did but she ignored me. I decided to introduce myself.

I looked at her friends, I saw this short OK looking chick and some guy with his arm around her. The guy looked just like Edward Norton.

Oh, wait. IT IS Edward Norton, LOL! I've seen some local celebrities in this club, but never an Oscar winning actor!

So I tapped on his shoulder and said nonchalantly "Edward Norton, love your movies, man!", (I know, very clever and original). He said "Thanks". So I said "Nice meeting you" and turned away.

The tall blonde had to leave with them, I tapped on her shoulder before she left, she turned around and I said goodbye.

I was a bit star-struck after that, but I kept dancing. Then all of a sudden the lights go out. This usually doesn't happen, I felt embarrassed that a celebrity visits a club in Rio right when we have a blackout, what a terrible impression. The band couldn't play without the amplifiers but the crowd cheered and sang the songs. It only lasted a couple of minutes though.

I couldn't possibly get face time with Edward Norton to talk about Ron Paul or at the very least hand him a piece of paper with the words "Google Ron Paul", LOL creepy! But I was definitely going to talk to that blonde chick hadn't her fancy celebrity friends "cockblocked" me  LMAO :D

MISSION FAILED!

ROFL

You were determined, and then you were distracted by a famous movie actor. Should of played it cool and acted like you didn't know him, don't treat him like a celebrity. Silly man :)

I feel like crap now, thanks you guys! :) No really, I could've just said "Hey, you should Google Ron Paul!" to either one of them. DAMN. I keep playing it back in my head. Who cares about his stupid movies? Ok, Fight Club was awesome. So was Primal Fear. OMG imdb says he's playing Bruce Banner on the new Incredible Hulk movie. Why do they keep doing Hulk movies?

The short girl might have been Shauna Robertson, I'm not sure judging (http://www.whosdatedwho.com/photos/gallery.asp?ID=3923&PG=1&RD=46246) from (http://www.whosdatedwho.com/photos/8L/82/3882_large.jpg) the (http://www.whosdatedwho.com/photos/8L/81/3881_large.jpg) pictures (http://www.whosdatedwho.com/photos/8L/80/3880_large.jpg), Wikipedia says that's his current girlfriend.

What's so great about the Democratic Party? Read up on President Johnson's "Great Society," it pretty much describes liberalism in practice. Know what happened when he implemented his liberal reforms? CHAOS! It was also partially the reason the neoconservative movement formulated, they thought that traditional conservatism was failing them, so they thought "hey! why not be war mongers first and conservatives whenever its politically convenient? Hell, we'll favor corporatism, Americans are too dumb to know the difference."

I don't understand why liberalism is still mainstream when.... it has already failed in the 60s lol funny, weren't the hippies fighting the war? Johnson was a liberal, he was pro-war, so now the hippies that were anti-war are hm... anti-war liberals? fascinating.

and that my friend is why I always carry these business cards and these stickers on me.

So I can simply say I am pretty buzzed right now and don't want to get into politics while were out have a good time but check this site out in the morning when your hungover!
You will be thankful even if you don't remember this conversation!
You get a good laugh from them and they say thanks!
No need to talk drunk or to a drunk person focused on music, some dude focused on chicks or a girl focused on where there next free drink is coming from!
People simply dont want to hear it at the moment. I used to try and tell them on the spot. bad idea.

I've often envisioned Edward Norton playing Ron Paul in his biopic someday (in several decades when he's got a lot more frost on the dome of course!).

That sucks you didn't get to drop Ron Paul on him, but look on the bright side: you're in Rio De Janeiro! :D

I was down there for Carnivale last Feb. First time out of the US and it was sooooooooooo much fun! Exchange rate is great too. Great food, music, culture, and a lot of HOT women!

I also urge everybody not to give up hope. There are a lot of Obama supporters who are secretly rooting for Ron (and even more who would be, if they knew who he was!). The tough part is going to be convincing them that it's within their best interest to register Republican and vote for RP in the primaries, so that they have two great candidates to choose from, instead of one.

You know, when a tall blond girl starts chatting me up in a club, the first thing I think is, "How can I get this chick to vote for Ron Paul?"

Come to think of it, stuff like this is why I dont go to other countries. As soon as I mention Im an American, everyone wants to talk about politics.

well, it's better to talk politics with a blonde American in a samba club in Rio than my experience of getting in a heated exchange with an Israeli about Zionism, the occupation of Gaza, and how America shouldn't be fighting Israel's wars for them in the men's room of a club in Rio :p

It was pretty cool though, there were some other Americans in the men's room and I was totally pwning this dude. He kept trying to cut me off and this other American jumped in and told him to let me finish. lol
