The latest statements from the Republican stalwarts illuminate a growing divide within the Republican Party on intervention overseas, especially with Libya.

In recent months, a number of conservatives in the House advocated for a more limited approach to U.S. military involvement in Libya while in the Senate caucus there was a clear-cut split.

A set of GOP lawmakers supported the early stand taken by Rep. Ron Paul against Obama's decision, blasting it as "unconstitutional."

On the other hand, another group in the Senate caucus supported Republican Sen. Marco Rubio’s blunt op-ed co-authored by independent colleague Joe Lieberman. “Whatever one thinks about the constitutional questions surrounding the War Powers Resolution, or the wisdom of the original decision to intervene in Libya three months ago, the strategic reality is that our nation is now engaged in a fight," they wrote. "It will either end in the demise of a brutal anti-American dictator, or in his victory over us and our allies. The latter would be an extremely harmful outcome for the U.S.”
