Thinking Back to When Presidential Vacations Were Bad…
http://www.nationalreview.com/campaign-spot/274440/thinking-back-when-presidential-vacations-were-bad

As I prepare for vacation and President Obama prepares for his 10 days in Martha’s Vineyard at a $50,000-per-week rental of the 28-acre beachfront Blue Heron Farm, let’s take a moment to remember when our friends on the left used to get outraged about presidential vacations. From Michael Moore’s “Fahrenheit 9/11:”

You see, Bush was a president who had a sliding approval rating, and “already beginning to look like a lame duck president” (because his approval was in the mid-40s, see?). I’m sure if Moore had more time, he would have emphasized that in summer of 2001, the unemployment rate had jumped from 4.3 percent to 4.9 percent! This was an economic crisis! People were hurting! How dare the president go play golf or hang around the New England when people were hurting!

I just wish that Obama took more vacations. It would have been nice if he took a 208 week vacation after taking office.

the u.s. constitution should be amended to force the president to live in a normal house and no payed vacation more than 1 week per year which would be a lower payrate than while working.

The role of President should be so mundane that we shouldn't care how many days of vacation are taken. Better the President does nothing rather than what he's been doing...

fo sho. the more vacations politicians take, the fewer bad legislation they can pass. and since most of them are in favor of bad legislation, that would be a major net plus

pro gun "cnservatives" on another forum complains about paul not getting much legislation passed. since most legislation is bad, and most politicians are in favor of bad legislation (i.e., they wouldnt support GOOD legislation), they are criticizing the wrong person

The US President now tries to show the trappings of royalty.

Being US President should be like becoming a preist in the Catholic Church. All of your property gets taken from you. That would weed out the assholes.

The Imperial Presidency

European royals make do with a less lavish lifestyle than the supposed citizen-executive of a so-called republic.

Why is the article comparing taking 10 days of vacation to taking 42% of the time off?

Has anybody actually seen Fahrenheit 9/11? It's actually a very good film. So is Bowling for Columbine.

I'm guessing Bush' handlers were OK with him taking a lot of vacation early on in his first term because they knew he wouldn't be able to get away with taking much after 9/11.

In fact after 9/11 his handlers instructed him not to golf anymore.
